The My Oracle Support Team would like to believe that diagnosing problems is a uniform experience across the Oracle tech stack in your IT environment but we know that might not be the truth.
Some say diagnosing issues for the Database is considerably more difficult than diagnosing issues for Middleware or Apps, and some say it depends on which App and version you’re talking about (say, R12 Financials) and others still say that there is no one product or family of products that stands out.
So we dare ask, what do you find to be the most difficult issues to diagnose?

I would have to say that in my experience E-Business Suite and/or the Oracle Application server are the most difficult to troubleshoot.
There is alot of information on Metalink w.r.t. the database, so chances are, if you've hit an error you'll probably be able to find a note which provides the solution very quickly.
With EBS on the other hand, sometimes your applying dozens of patches.. (I've applied more than 80 in one shot and i've heard of people having to apply in the hundreds..) So when something goes wrong, it can take quite a while to pinpoint the cause.
We had that problem a couple of years ago with EBS security patches. Oracle couldn't pinpoint the cause so we had to apply each patch individually, startup the application, test, shutdown, apply the next patch, etc until we found the one causing the issues.
Its not uncommon to query metalink with a BPEL error and receive only one hit which just repeats the error description.
So, I would have to vote for EBS first, then Oracle App server running BPEL.

Interesting take on EBS diagnostics Dave, can't really argue with the complexity of patching over time.
So that's one EBS vote and a second-place vote for BPEL...any others?

What do you find to be the most difficult issues to diagnose?
If you know a produc in & out then its easy to diagnose so it depends on individual's skillset

Good point Atul. Would you say that there are different subcomponents within a product that are harder to handle, say install vs. performance for instance?
