I'm almost caught up on backlogged announcements. One important piece of news from the Collaborate conference last month was the waiver of Extended Support fees for two products:
- Oracle E-Business Suite Release 11.5.10
- Oracle Database 10gR2.
These are challenging economic times, and some of you have been asking for additional time to plan for major EBS upgrades. The changes described in the following documents give you a bit more breathing space:
- Oracle Extends Support Value for Customers (Press Release)
- Waiver of Extended Support Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ, PDF, 29K)
Updates Affecting E-Business Suite Support
Premier Support for Oracle E-Business Suite Release 11.5.10 officially ends in November, 2010. Premier Support for E-Business Suite 11.5.9 ended in June 2008. This is documented here:
- Lifetime Support Policy: Oracle Applications (PDF, 630K)
The new support announcements affect what happens after the end of Premier Support.
EBS 11.5.10 Extended Support Fees Waived through November 2011
Once an E-Business Suite version leaves Premier Support, you have the option of purchasing Extended Support for an additional fee. The good news from this announcement is that the additional fees for the first year of Extended Support for Apps 11.5.10 from November 2010 to November 2011 have been waived.
EBS 11.5.9 Sustaining Support Extended to June 2010
In addition, the first year of Sustaining Support for Apps 11.5.9 has been extended by one year. Sustaining Support includes fixes for Severity 1 production issues and will include one statutory update: a US 1099 update for 2009 year-end. The extension will be in effect through June 2010.
Updates Affecting Database Support
You may still be running your E-Business Suite database on the 10gR2 Database. Premier Support for the 10gR2 Database officially ends in July 2010. This is documented here:
Oracle Database 10gR2 Extended Support Fees Waived through July 2011
Like the policy for the E-Business Suite described above, you have the option of purchasing Extended Support for the Oracle Database for an additional fee. The good news from this announcement is that the additional fees for the first year of Extended Support for the 10gR2 Database from July 2010 to July 2011 have been waived.
Plan For Your Upgrades As Soon As Possible
These latest announcements don't mean that you can stay on these products indefinitely. It just means that you have a little extra time to get things together. The fees for Extended Support will still kick in after these one-year extensions! I would strongly recommend that you use the extra time to begin planning for your Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12 and 11g Database upgrades now.

Hi,
is there any update on the support dates for Oracle Discoverer when used with eBusiness Suite ?
Are the same support schedules pertinent for both products

Hi, Steve,
There are no E-Business exceptions for Discoverer desupport. In other words, when the Fusion Middleware team desupports Discoverer for general customer use, it's also desupported for EBS customers at the same time.
The support dates for all Oracle products are listed here:
http://www.oracle.com/support/lifetime-support-policy.html
Discoverer is covered by the "Fusion Middleware Products" document. That document shows that Discoverer 10g will be desupported in December 2010.
Regards,
Steven

Hi
Can you clarify something , there seems to be a conflict in 2 documents produced by Oracle around on going support of eBusiness Suite ?
Doc Id 836258.1 - this states that CPU's will only be supported against release 12.0.3 or higher. This contradicts the Life Time Support documentation for Release 11.5.10 .
I am hoping the Life Time Support document is correct ??
Thanks
Ian

Hi, Ian,
The Lifetime Support Policy is correct. Several customers have expressed confusion about the latest October 2009 Critical Patch Update documentation, so you're not alone. Our E-Business Suite CPU team plans to update the documentation by the end of the week with this information:
Minimum Supported levels for Oct 2009 CPU:
11i - 11i10 or 11i10CU2 with ATG RUP 6
12.0 - 12.0.3
12.1 - 12.1.1

Steven

Hi Steven,
Note: 880170.1 Oracle E-Business Suite Releases 11i and 12 Critical Patch Update Knowledge Document (October 2009) containing the following statement:
Note: Beginning with the January 2010 Critical Patch Update (CPUJan2010), the minimum supported baseline will be Release 12.0.4; that is, Oracle E-Business Suite Critical Patch Updates will only be available for customers on Release 12.0.4 or higher.
Premier Support for Oracle E-Business Suite Release 11.5.10 officially ends in November, 2010. So, Oracle won't stop delivering the CPU for 11.5.10 in January 2010, right? Hope the Note: 880170.1 was mistyped too.
Thanks for your confirmation and updates!
Jennifer.

Hi, Jennifer,
That CPU Note was poorly worded and will be corrected by this weekend. It has triggered many emails from concerned E-Business Suite customers.
Our CPU team did not mean to imply that future CPUs will be delivered solely for Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12. We will continue to provide CPUs for both Oracle E-Business Suite Release 11i and Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12 while they're covered by Premier Support.
Regards,
Steven

Hi Steven,
The CPU team may need to borrow the Chief Editor from this blog:). Thank you very much for clarifications.
Best Regards,
Jennifer.
