We are not able to open multiple Jinitiator based forms on Firefox 3.0 of Oracle eBS 11.5.10.2, while it works fine with Internet Explorer.

Are there any settings which require to be configured ?
I have not tested it on Firefox 2.0 but does it support opening of multiple forms like IE?

We're working through a number of compatibility issues with Firefox 3 and EBS right now. Our OA Framework team has provided us with a few patches which we're testing.

Until we've released those patches, I'd recommend on sticking with Firefox 2 for the time being.

I don't have a firm schedule for this certification yet. You're welcome to monitor or subscribe to this blog for updates, which I'll post as soon as possible.

One of my team members looked into this.
We verified that this works with Firefox 3.0.3 and JRE 1.6.0_10.

You can enable this feature from the Forms Navigator Menu by unchecking the option Tools -> Close Other Forms.

That said, we still recommend waiting for our certification before using Firefox 3 with EBS, since you'll need some OA Framework patches from us for full compatibility with this latest browser.

I'm glad to hear this. As I expect EBS to be based on the current Forms 10.1.2.3, I hope this means, that this plugin can now be considered fully certified for 10.1.2.3.

7485019 SUN JRE 1.6.0_10 RC2 : RESIZING THE FORMS APPLET WINDOW HANGS THE FORMS SESSION

Both these bugs are specific to 1.6.0_10, ie. they do not reproduce with any earlier JRE version. 7396079 has a workaround, which involves disabling the new Direct3D accelleration, which is broken with Forms, since Forms renders its windows with XOR rendering, see this Sun bug:

However, bug 7485019, which apparently only is encountered with separateFrame=true, does not seem to have any workaround. This bug is currently preventing us from upgrading to 1.6.0_10. I reported this bug and have had it escalated, but so far, Development have not given any info, whether this is a Forms bug or a JRE bug, and has not given any schedule for a fix.

Are you aware of these 2 issues with 1.6.0_10, and do you have any further information regarding an upcoming fix/workaround to bug 7485019?

Hope you can help us by providing some more information, since you appear to have been testing 1.6.0_10 in-depth with the latest version of Forms.

Both Sun and Oracle Forms Development are aware of bug 7396079. Sun has indicated that this will be resolved in a future release of the JRE (but not in 1.6.0_10 itself).

Bug 7485019 is in the Oracle Forms Development team's queue right now. They haven't posted any substantive comments yet.

We have testing 1.6.0_10 with the E-Business Suite and have not encountered this issue so far. That doesn't mean that the problem report is invalid, of course, but the fault appears to trigger in specific conditions which may not occur in the course of our usual testing.

It's taken a bit of time for our Forms team to reproduce this issue reliably. They just managed to reproduce this issue today, Nov. 24.

They're tracking your SR as well as bug 7485019, which is now escalated. They're working on a standalone testcase of EWT to reproduce this issue now.

I am tracking this closely to see whether there are any implications for E-Business customers using this JRE version. I will ensure that my team updates the base EBS recommendations for using this JRE release with new guidance, as needed. Feel free to monitor or subscribe to this blog for updates, which I'll post as soon as possible.

FYI: Sun has acknowledged Oracle bug 7485019 as a problem in the JDK. Sun bug 6784816 has been logged on this issue.

I'm getting some push back from ATG support for asking questions related to JRE 1.6u7. They are suggesting these questions would be better answered by Sun. We pay Oracle to support us. Are you saying we now need to pay Sun to support us as well?

For example, most recently I was testing the case when JRE 1.6u7 (which we will deploy February 2009) and 1.6u10 are on the same client. A pop up occurs which states, "The application requires an earlier version of Java" and provides two buttons "Run" and "Cancel". I would like to make that pop up invisible to my users.

ATG responded that we should uncheck the update tab box that permits Java from launching a scheduled automatic update. But this does nothing for the other 2 situations: Application downloads update or user downloads update. It only stops Java itself from downloading newer updates. We are still talking, so this is a snapshot of the conversation thus far.

We are using static versioning based on 1.6u7, with Oracle Applications 11.5.10.2.

I hear you -- multivendor support discussions are a reality in our operating environment, and they can be frustrating to work through.

There's a fine line that we try to walk here. On the one hand, it's a requirement that people use other vendors' products with EBS. For example, someone will be running the Sun JRE within Internet Explorer on Windows XP on a Dell Latitude.

Oracle Support will do their best to isolate EBS problems to the root cause. If those problems are found to exist in an Oracle component (e.g. the Oracle database or EBS itself), we can work on providing you with a fix.

However, this doesn't mean that Oracle can provide a carte blanche commitment to fix all problems with other vendors' products used in the process of accessing EBS. Advanced support for those products may be needed from those vendors themselves.

Back when we released our own Oracle JInitiator product (the predecessor to our use of Sun's JRE), Oracle had complete control over how that Java client worked. Our move away from Oracle's proprietary client to open standards means that Oracle no longer controls all aspects of the user experience.

The Sun Microsystems is responsible for providing support for their Java Runtime Engine. Oracle doesn't have any control over the behaviour of this particular popup, since all of this happens within the JRE itself and not Oracle software. If you'd like the JRE's fundamental behaviour to be changed, that may require a code change that only Sun can provide.

As noted in the article above, you can use any version of the Sun JRE above the minimum levels specified in the Notes for each of the respective JRE and EBS codelines. You no longer need to wait for an explicit certification statement from us in Oracle E-Business Suite Development if you're above that minimum JRE level.

For example, the R12 Note shows that you can use JRE 1.6.0_03 and higher. Since 1.6.0_11 is higher that 1.6.0_03, you're free to use the later release whenever you wish.

Hello Thiru,

The issue sounds similar to one already reported after applying Forms Patchset 19, which is fixed by patch 7156414 However patch 7156414 is listed as one of the required patches in Note 125767.1 so you may already have applied it.

If you are not on Forms patchset 19 or have already applied 7156414, then I would suggest you do raise a Service Request for your specific issue to be investigated

I raised SR and I was asked to apply patch 6327405 which delivered FormsMouseWheelHandler.class which was missing earlier.

I suggest Oracle development include applying this patch in Note:125767.1 or in Note:290807.1.

After Deploying Sun JRE (Native Plug-in) for Windows Clients in Oracle E-Business Suite 11i in our Test Instance, we find that there is general slowness in loading Oracle Forms compared to the Jinitiator.
Also PDF reports are opening in a minimized fashion in Browser..

We have ensured that Browser and OS compatibilities are as recommended in Note 290807.1

Do I need to do any further configuration?

There is no specific tuning and is not expected that Native JRE would be significantly slower than JInitiator, so will need to analyse the specifics of your case. The best way to do this is for you to raise a Service Request.

I would suggest you create a test case and take specific timings, repeat it two or three times with Native JRE to ensure it is consistant, then also do a couple of testcase iterations with Jinitiator as well. Then raise Service request with this data for us to take a look at.

Our users are ok with the performance.

Actually our problem now is if we open any concurrent requests in PDF then the new browser window opens but is minimized.

This also happens when we open any HTML based program like Oracle Applications Manager-->Hosts from Forms Navigator.

What I mean is the new browser window opens but is minimized. This is not acceptable to the users. This was not the way it was working with Jinitiator.

This is happening in 10 PCs running XP and IE6 or 7. But very strangly it ok in ONLY one PC running XP and IE7.

Really dont know if its a Dev6i patcset 19 issue or Sun JRE issue or IE setting.

I have raised SR (7259590.994) and the analyst asked me to apply patch 7594318. Still the issue is not resolved.

We recently upgraded our 11.5.10.6 Production environment to 6i Forms Patchset 19 and ran into a problem where users forms crashed whenever they cancelled out of LOV's (see SR 19965544.6 and bug 7644749 FORMS FAILURE WITH FRM-92100 WHEN CANCEL A LOV).

We were directed by support to upgrade to JRE 6 which corrected the crashing problem, however we were unaware of the aformentioned rendering and hang problems with JRE 6.

Hello Dawna,

Development regularly update the latest recommended Forms patches in the upgrade notes, either Note 125767.1 for 11i or note 437878.1 for Rel 12. These recommendations have been changing quite frequently recently due to the latest set of focus issues, so is always worth re-reading these notes to ensure you have the latest fixes

In a similar vein, the Support team have recently put together Note 753324.1 "Diagnosing Form Mouse Focus Problems In Applications R11i" This note tries to go a bit deeper into the explanations, rather than just say "apply these patches" and may also flag up known issues or additional patches that should be applied to resolve the focus issues. Again, you should regularly re-review this note to see if your issue is mentioned

For the specific bugs you are asking about, both are still being investigated/addressed with the appropriate Development teams so neither have a code fix available as yet. You can implement a workaround for the issue described in Bug 7396079 RENDERING OF WINDOW IS 'PAINFULLY' SLOW WHEN USING JRE 1.6.0_10 This workaround is documented in Note 757618.1 "Rendering Of Window Is 'Painfully' Slow When Using JRE 1.6.0_10 With APPS 11i" As of today, the solution mentioned in the note is only described for Internet Explorer so will need to get the note updated to be complete solution for Firefox also (give me a day or two to get that changed)

The release of this fix is out of Oracle's hands, as it is a fix to Sun's JRE that we are waiting for. I understand it is quite likely the fix will be included in 1.5.0u16 and 1.6.0u12, however this is completely down to Sun and we would be just as disapointed as you if this proves not to be the case.

Our customer went live with Sun JRE 1.6.0_07 with EBS 11i ( Oracle CRM) and want to revert back to JInitiator due to the following issues:

1. Poor performance over WAN (compared to Jinitiator)
2. Arabic Characters issue (Doc Id 731703.1).
3. Minimizing a Form hangs the Forms Session

Unless the Sun JRE bugs are resolved its going to be difficult to convince customer(s) to move to Sun JRE.

Hi Mike, Thanks for the update. Do you have a timeframe for when the note (753324.1) will be available publicly?

I have had several complaints from our users recently about forms hangs when they attempt to right-click/copy from a form in E-Business. The problem is not limited to a specific form and so far I have not been able to reproduce the issue consistently - other than it seems to happen during the right-click/copy of a field in a forms screen. I am not sure whether this problem is releated
to the bug 7485019 or whether this is something new. I thought maybe reviewing the note might help.

Please let me know when you might be able to share the information with me or whether I should open another new SR on this issue.

I upgraded to Sun JRE. After selecting a forms responsibility all I get is a screen that says Done in the lower left hand corner. Is that 'RESIZING THE FORMS APPLET WINDOW HANGS THE FORMS SESSION' error at work? I am on Sun JRE 1.6.0_12. I upgraded to Dev 6i patch 19 and patch 7594318 but still have the same trouble.

Any thoughts on what to do next? I have an SR open but they're going the direction of problems with Apache.

Support found that a work-around to my problem is to use the dev60cgi/f60cgi url instead of AppsLocalLogin. That does indeed work.

Running the Oracle Apps with dev60cgi/f60cgi is not the solution.

Since you have upgraded to Dev 6i Patchset 19 first make sure Oracle Apps is working fine with your existing Jinitiator.

Anytime you can switch to Jinitiator with txkSetPlugin.sh script.

Then implement Sun JRE 1.6.0_X.

The dev60cgi/f60cgi was just a workaround. The solution turned out to be that our profile option 'Self Service Personal Home Page' was set to Personal Homepage. Once it was set to Framework Only the problem went away.

Our only other issue is that when we view concurrent request log and output the window that shows the output opens minimized. Note 760250.1 problem 9 shows this as a problem in JRE update 10 and 11 but for us it is also happening in update 12. To fix this problem you have to disable the Next Generation Java Plugin. It's an easy fix but it does have to be done on every client.

We have just upgraded our Production to SUN JRE 1.6.0_14. After the upgrade, one specific form Dispatch center form (CSFDCMAI.fmb) is having issues with rendering the objects and sometimes in opening up. There are different error messages that keep showing up like
-R0625-pure virtual function call
-Multiple JVMs identified. Cannot open.

For some users it freezes up or sometimes completely kicks out the user from the application and they have to re-login

For the same users, sometimes the form works fine and again intermittently gives these errors. We have set JRE runtime parameters on the client PC to -Xms128M -Xmx256M. This seemed to have worked the first time but the issues continue to happen. Any suggestions to help with this issue are greatly appreciated?

I don't have any insight into what may be going on here. These types of intermittent problems can be difficult to debug, so your best bet would be to log a formal Service Request via My Oracle Support (formerly Metalink) to get one of our specialists engaged.

Deepa and I work for the same company. We had logged SR# 3-1154912341 for the issue we are seeing with freezing screen for the Dispatch Center application. Any assistance you and/or your team can provide will be much appreciated.

Something that I should mention is that the Dispatch Center is being used by folks with dual monitors. And these machines use NVIDIA video cards.
