Hello, Zia,The permutation space = all the operating system platforms and their versions * all of the E-Business Suite versions * E-Business Suite application products * techstack components * techstack versions. The cartesian set of all of those combinations is vast, and represents far too many combinations to summarize in a single document. We capture this information in a database called CERTIFY, which is available to all Oracle Metalink users (and Oracle employees). It's a bit tricky to use (since it was originally developed many years ago), but is the authoritative source for every question about E-Business Suite techstack certification.Regards,Steven

Hello architects. Is there a single document somewhere that lists all certified techstacks for EBS 11i/R12?

Hi Steven,
There are customers still running 11.5.10 instance. Can we expect 11.5.10 certification on RHEL 5.

Hello Phani -
The minimum Oracle database version certified with RHEL 5 is 10gR2 (10.2.0), so 11.5.10 users are required to upgrade their installed db to this version which in turn (see ML Note: 362203.1) requires the 11.5.10 Consolidated Update 2 (CU2) and thus effectively upgrades the EBS system to 11.5.10.2. This is equivalent to what 'Maintenance Packs' did in prior 11i releases..
So, the vanilla 11.5.10 release with 9i DBMS (without CU2, and other requirements) cannot be supported on RHEL 5.

John

Hello Prabhu -
The certification of EBS Release 12 on RHEL 5.1 is currently in progress - unfortunately we cannot divulge any ETAs, etc. due to Oracle's rules on public communications. See Steven's blog article:

I would like to confirm that RHEL5 is certified for 11.5.10.2 on the Application Tier (not concerned with the database tier) and that Oracle VM is not a prerequisite.
Reason: Metalink currently states that RHEL 4 & 5 require Oracle VM (implies it by listing RHEL and Oracle VM alonside in the same field display). This discrepancy was verified by our local Oracle office.
Thanks!

Henry,
I agree that those Certify matrices on Metalink are a bit confusing.
I confirm that RHEL 5 *is* certified for 11.5.10.2 for both the Application Tier and Database Tier. Oracle VM is *not* a prerequisite for RHEL 5.
We're working on getting those matrices reformatted to clarify this.

Steven

Hi there -
EBS cloning between OEL 4 and OEL 5 is fully supported - please review the 11i cloning doc (ML Note: 230672.1) in conjunction with the 11.5.10.2 Installation Update Notes (ML Note: 316806.1) for requirements, etc.

Dear John,
Thanks for your reply.
I checked the documents you mentioned, but i didnt find any statement specifieds clearly that cloning for EBS 11i from OEL4 to OEL5 or vice verse is supported or not.
I wonder if you have for any chance did a clone as per the above?
Thanks a lot in advance

Cloning from the (n-1) to n version of an OS (so, OEL 4 to OEL 5 in this case) is done as part of the certification process for the newer OS.
The 11i FAQ on cloning (ML Note: 216664.1) states the following under bullet point 13:
13. Can I clone from one operating system version to another?
Answer:
Yes, if the target system platform is binary compatible with the source system platform. For example, if you have an existing single-node Oracle Applications system on Solaris 2.6, you could clone it to a node running Solaris 8, but not to a node running HP-UX. Note that cloning from a higher version of a platform to a lower version is not supported, for example, from Solaris 8 to Solaris 2.6.

Dear All,
Is it possible to install the following split-tier configuration:
- E-business 11.5.10.2 (Application Tier) on RHEL5 32bit
- Oracle 9i (Database Tier) on RHEL4 64bit since it is not supported on RHEL5
I would appreciate any input.
Thanks,
Sam

Hi, Sam,
Yes, this is supported. This is what's called a "split configuration" for Oracle E-Business Suite Release 11i, where the app tier is on a fully supported platform (like 32-bit RHEL 5), and the db tier is on a db-tier only platform (like 64-bit RHEL 4).

Steven

Hi, Michael:
Oracle's Support windows are listed here:
http://www.oracle.com/support/lifetime-support-policy.html
OEL's support is listed in the "Lifetime Support Policy: Oracle Technology Products" PDF. I just checked this. It shows different OEL support tables for Premier, Basic, and Network support.
I'm not an OEL specialist and I confess that I don't really know what the differences are between each of these support categories. I'd recommend looking up the table for your particular support class; if you need more details, a formal Service Request via Metalink might be your best bet.

Steven

I'm trying a clone migration from RHEL 4.3 to RHEL 5.2. Its a 2-tier set-up. I have applied all the required RPM's (I hope) on both tirers.
The DB tier is now up and running fine, but I'm having huge problems getting Discoverer running on the Apps Tier. There are plenty hits on Google with this problem - but no real solution. (We are running eBS 11.5.10.2 on Oracle 10.2.0.2.)
Lots of info about LD_ASSUME_KERNEL settings, but that is all not relevant any more for RHEL 5.
I have an SR open with ML - but no solution yet.
Any suggestions?
Regards
Grant

Hello, Grant,
No suggestions based upon the information you've provided. There are no known issues with Discoverer, EBS, and RHEL. If you drop me a line with your SR number, I can take a quick look at this.

Steven

Hello Steven Chan,
I am running eBS 11.5.10.2 with db 10.1.4.0 on HP-UX PARISC, application on one node and db on the other node.
1. Is it possible to clone the apps (node) from HP-UX PARISC to Linux RHEL 5 ?
2. Must i upgrade the database from 10.1.4.0 to 10R2 for question 1 to be successful ?
3. Kindly direct me to links that can be of help for a successful migration of eBS 11.5.10.2 apps from HP-UX PARISC to Linux RHEL 5
Thank you.

I have an eBS environment split tier environment where the app server requires more than 16GB of RAM that is supported by RHEL 5 -32bit. Can the eBS 11.5.10.2 run on the RHEL 64bit OS? Is this supported? If not, what are my options.

Hi, Eric,
Unfortunately, EBS 11i application tier servers are not supported on Linux-x86 64-bit platforms.
The easiest option would be to implement a multi-node load-balanced architecture in your EBS environment. This would spread your application tier server load between multiple servers, which should reduce your memory requirements. For details about multinode deployments, see:
In-Depth: Load-Balancing E-Business Suite Environments - http://blogs.oracle.com/stevenChan/2006/06/indepth_loadbalancing_ebusines.html
Another option would be to consider upgrading to EBS R12. This is a different kettle of fish, of course, but I wanted to make sure that you're aware of this option. EBS 12.0 and higher are certified for Linux x86-64, for Oracle Enterprise Linux 4 and 4, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 and 5.

Steven

I have a 11.5.10CU2 env installed on OEL4. Can I upgrade to OEL5 in place? If so, is there a ML note describing the steps required?

Hello, Mark,
I'm not a platforms specialist, but my understanding is that Note 316806.1 contains steps on how to do in-place upgrades like this.
If that Note doesn't fit the bill, it might be worth logging a formal Service Request via Metalink to get one of our platform specialists engaged.
Good luck with your upgrade!

Steven
