Jay Weinshenker:

FYI, the upgrade from 9208 to 11g DB on x86 Linux went smoothly for us, but I think you all definitely need to update the script and metalink note on init.ora parameters should be there or not. It simply doesn't say on many parameters that were there in the past. The automated script needs to updated for 11g DB.

Steven Chan:

Thanks for the feedback, Jay.In theory, everything that's needed for the 11g DB upgrade should be fully documented already.  Do you have an SR with any more details about the specific things missing or undocumented?  I'd like to have our teams look into this in more detail. Regards,Steven

Jay Weinshenker:

I didn't open an SR, but before 11g 11i cert came out, note 216205.1 was the official init.ora parameter list for Apps. It still is, and does have some a 11g section, but doesn't specifically say anything for the various init.ora parameters that start with _ - which dbua removes. Finally, that note used to reference the automated init.ora checking script in metalink note 174605.1 , but that reference is removed and the script in that 174605.1 note is not updated to handle 11g.

Carlos Sierra:

Script bde_chk_cbo.sql (Note: 174605.1) includes now validation of init.ora parameters for APPS 11i on RDBMS 11g.

Is 11g certification with R12 in the works? Am wondering if 11g upgrade is advisable or if it might interfere in planning for R12.
Regards, Anna Mar僘

Steven Chan:

Anna Maria,Yes, we're working on this certification right now, as discussed briefly in this recent article:Update on Database 11g Release 1 (11.1.0.6.0) Certification with EBS Release 12 - http://blogs.oracle.com/schan/2008/03/update_on_database_11g_release.htmlIf you upgrade an E-Business Suite Release 11i environment to the 11g Database today, a subsequent upgrade to E-Business Suite Release 12 will be dependent on the latter's certification with the 11g Database.  I don't have a firm schedule for the 11g Database certification with E-Business Suite Release 12 yet, but you're welcome to monitor this blog for updates.Regards,Steven

Rich Sutherland:

This may be a little premature, but I heard that 11gR2 will be announced (initial release) at Open World in a couple of weeks. We are toying with the notion of waiting until 11gR2 is certified with EBS 11i to upgrade the database to 11g. How long did it take to certify 11gR1 with EBS 11i after it was initially released? Can we expect the same amount of time to pass for 11g R2 to be certified with EBS 11i from the time it is released?

Steven Chan:

Hi, Rich,

I've been planning on collecting some certification timeline metrics for a while, but this isn't something that I have at my fingertips yet.

I don't have any information that I can share about our 11gR2 certification timelines at this point. When it comes to this kind of decision, I strongly believe that there's a lot of truth in this old adage: "A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush."

In other words, if I were faced with the decision to upgrade to a new release now (and get the benefits immediately) or wait to upgrade to an even-newer release at some unspecified future date, I'd go with the new release.

Regards,
Steven

Do You have any benchmarks for HP-UX? I found only with HP hardware, but with Red Hat. Thank You
