It looks like this is the Year of the Hypervisor. The whole industry seems abuzz with talk of server virtualization. One of the most intriguing announcements at OpenWorld this week: Oracle is entering the server virtualization space with the availability of Oracle VM, based on the open source Xen hypervisor.
We've been testing Oracle VM with the E-Business Suite prior to its unveiling at OpenWorld. While my team has more certification tests still still to come, Oracle VM is initially supported for Apps with the following minimum prerequisites:
Release 11i

Hi Steve, Is there any plan to extend certification for other VM vendors or limited to Oracle VM ?

I have some questions about Oracle Vm.
1.
According to read FAQ for Oracle VM on Oracle Corp HP,
Oracle VM is not required host operating system.
I think it mean Oracle VM is not depend on host OS
Can Oracle VM work fine on any host OS?
2.
Can I clone( or migrate) EBS for cases below
A. EBS on physical server(any OS) to Oracle VM
B. EBS on Oracle VM to physical server
C. EBS on Oracle VM to another Oracle VM
3.
In case of Q2-C, can I use EBS on Oracle VM by just moving Oracle VM image file from one physical server to another physical server without cloning procedure?

Hello Vikram,
Oracle do not specifically certify with virtualization technologies (unless explicitly stated as above) so do not certify for Sun LDOM/Containers nor IBM LPAR, HP nPartitions/vPars, etc....
If you reported an issue to Oracle Support, we will be testing with a "standard" hardware/operating system. If it seems an issue could be to do with the underlying operating system and it cannot be reproduced in the Oracle Support environment, we will likely ask you to engage your operating system provider to lead the investigations

Hi Experts,
Can Oracle VM be used for high availability purposes with Oracle Ebsuiness suite.
Say if I put Oracle Ebusiness Suite on Oracle VM on server , and If that Server Goes down, then will Oracle VM automatically failover the Ebiz Image and the user connections to server 2.
I'm using Dataguard for the DB Layer. But more worried about the Application Failover.

Hi Anton,
Oracle VM does have a number of High Availability features, and as you correctly assume, they can be used with E-Business Suite. The general OVM behavior is documented in section 3.5 Enabling High Availability of the OVM Manager User's Guide, as well as in section 7. High Availability of the OVM Server User's Guide.
There are nuances depending on what your E-Business Suite OVM images contain / do / depend on. For example, after a server failure, if your vm is restarted on another physical machine, the result will depend your vm templates startup scripts and whether they preserve the same config (e.g. static ip, machine/EBS config), start the correct processes, and have access to all required shared resources used before (e.g. shared storage, access to ecosystem).
