Hi Steven,
I've tried applying patch 4960210 on top of standalone Discoverer 10g(OS:AIX5.3). However, after accepting the ias_admin password, the OUI prompts me to run a script /usr/bin/slibclean and after this is accepted (after executing this script), OUI errors out with a String index out of range : -18 error.
Have opened a SR on this with Oracle Support. Any clues on this ?
Thx.
Rakesh.

Hi, Rakesh,Glad to hear that you're trying this out, but I'm sorry to hear you're having problems. This might be platform-specific; I haven't encountered this error before. I'd recommend logging a Service Request via Metalink to get one of our Discoverer installation specialists engaged. Please let me know how this works out for you.Regards,Steven

I found that there seem to be two products... Discoverer integrated with Oracle Application Server and a standalone version named Oracle Business Inteligence Server.. which are the pros and cons of each product and what would be the guidance on which one to implement for my organization...
much thanks,
catharine

Hi, Catharine,I can sympathize -- I have trouble sometimes with the naming hierarchy, myself. Discoverer 10g is part of the Oracle Application Server 10g family. Within the Oracle Application Server 10g, there's a sub-family of products grouped into a packaged called Oracle Business Intelligence. There are multiple "editions" of this product family.Oracle Business Intelligence Standard Edition includes Discoverer 10g. Discoverer 10g can be deployed in a standalone manner for custom business intelligence and analytic applications. You can also integrate that standalone Discoverer 10g instance with the E-Business Suite. That allows you to develop your own custom analytic applications against the E-Business Suite database. Alternately, if you licence something like Oracle Applications Financials Intelligence, this allows you to use the prepackaged intelligence workbooks and End-User Layer developed by the Oracle Applications Business Intelligence group. You can also modify those prebuilt workbooks to suit your purposes.Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition includes a new product based on the recently-acquired Hyperion analytic engine. This product includes a different set of analytic dashboards and drill downs, and different analytic and modelling capabilities for Oracle Financials and other products. I have relatively-less expertise in the analytic applications' functional content. If you'd like to compare and contrast the feature sets of these two products, I'd recommend speaking with your Oracle account manager. He or she can help you drill down into the details for each of these products.Good luck with your assessment.Regards,Steven
