There's been a recent surge of questions asking whether the E-Business Suite can be used with Oracle Application Server 10g 10.1.3 and Demantra, one of our new product family members.

I'm not a Demantra specialist, but from an Apps architectural perspective, the short answer is: yes. There are a few things to remember about this integration:
- The E-Business Suite Release 11i's application-tier runs on Oracle9i Application Server 1.0.2.2.2 only. It must stay at this level. It may not be upgraded to either Oracle Application Server 10g 10.1.2.x or 10.1.3.x.
- The E-Business Suite Release 11i can be integrated with an external server running Oracle Application Server 10g 10.1.3.x. There are no restrictions on integrating Apps 11i with OracleAS 10.1.3.x. We have not certified this configuration but it's supported. Remember that there's an important distinction between certification and support.
- Alternately, if you have sufficient capacity on your existing E-Business Suite application server, you can install Oracle Application Server 10g 10.1.3.x in a separate ORACLE_HOME on an existing E-Business Suite server.
- You then install Demantra on top of the external Oracle Application Server 10g 10.1.3.x environment. The standalone Demantra environment then connects to the E-Business Suite environment.
- Demantra is an Oracle SSO-enabled partner application, too. If your E-Business Suite environment has been integrated with Single Sign-On 10g and Oracle Internet Directory 10g, you can integrate that combined environment with Demantra, too, to provide Single Sign-On capabilities across Apps and Demantra.
Demantra runs on the latest Sun Java Runtime Engine (JRE) plug-in on the desktop. Oracle E-Business Suite's Forms-based products run on Oracle Jinitiator on the desktop. Depending on how your end-users run Demantra, there may be conflicts between these two Java plug-ins, notably if the same users wish to access the E-Business Suite's Forms-based content at the same time that they're running Demantra.
If so, there's light on the horizon: we're still in the process of certifying the native Sun JRE plug-in with the E-Business Suite. Once that certification is complete, E-Business Suite users can use the native Sun JRE plug-in instead of Jinitiator, eliminating any conflicts.
If your organization wishes to deploy Demantra now, before the E-Business Suite's certification of the native Sun JRE plug-in is complete, you may wish to register in our E-Business Suite Early Adopter Program. I'm still accepting customer nominations for this Early Adopter Program; for details, see:

Any idea if there will be a R12 Demantra, OracleAS 10.1.3 and the E-Business Suite integration patch, of if one is required?

Michael,I believe that the Demantra team is working on a Release 12 version of their integration now. I don't have many details on this, but as usual, if I hear more, I'll post a follow-up article here.Regards,Steven

Hi Michael,As Steve pointed out, we are currently working on integrating Demantra Demand Management and Real Time Sales & Operations Planning with EBS R12. The integration will be available later this year.[Editor note: Zia is part of the Oracle Advanced Planning team responsible for Demantra development]

If there are any Demantra team members watching, the 7.1.1 installation guide has NLS_LANG settings that will prevent the database client from ever connecting to the database.
Make sure that the database uses the following encodings:
- NLS_LANG = AMERICAN_AMERICA.WE8USO8859P1
- NLS_DATE_FORMAT = MM-DD-YYYY HH24:MI:SS
- NLS_LANGUAGE = AMERICAN
- NLS_TERRITORY = AMERICA
The export was done with NLS_LANG=American_America.WE8MSWIN1252, and that one seems to work for the import used during the installation.

Hi, Pankaj,
I'm not a Demantra expert, but I see Demantra documentation here (for EBS 11i, anyway):
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B25516_18/current/html/docset.html
If that's not what you're looking for, I'd suggest logging a formal Service Request via Metalink against the Demantra product for pointers.
Regards,
Steven

Hi Steven,
I am installing Demantra on a windows Vista machine. All the demantra components are not installed even after choosing complete install option.
Can you please share some information on whether this
configuration is certfied.

Hi, Girish,
Demantra platform certifications (including desktop clients) are handled by a different group than mine. I'm afraid that I'm not a Demantra specialist and don't have any insight into the expected behaviour here. I'd recommend logging a formal Service Request via Metalink against Demantra for this one.

Steven

Hi Girish,
I hope you must have got the reply for your query by now.
But in case if you are still searching then as per the system requirements documented,
Oracle Demantra has been tested on the following operating systems and no problems have been detected:
- Windows XP (use for demos only)
- RedHat Linux AS 3.1 (applies only to the Oracle Demantra Web Platform Server; the Admin Utilities and the Analytical Engine run only on Windows operating systems); note that less testing has been done for Linux than for XP.
Windows 98, however, is not recommended.
Thanks and Regards,
Shekhar
