Reflections on Collaborate 07

Well, I'm back and sadly assessing my clogged inbox.  But it was worth it. Vegas Version 2007 is an awe-inspiring example of a city designed with a single purpose:  to happily and efficiently separate you from your disposable income.  I'm glad I got a chance to beta test the latest Spring upgrade of this city.

I love conferences like Collaborate and OpenWorld because I get to meet you face-to-face and talk about your deployments.  This year's Collaborate was notable for a number of reasons:
  • Your overwhelming feedback on this blog:  Blogging is a public yet paradoxically solitary activity, so it's immensely satisfying to hear your comments in person.  My thanks to all of you who took the time to share your thoughts about this blog, especially the effusive and charming person who rendered me speechless at the bar at the Solution Beacon party.  Your encouragement spurs my resolve to continue investing in this blog, with possibly a side-effort on expanding our content on the Oracle Technology Network.

  • The quality of your questions:  The general level of questions about E-Business Suite technology has been getting more sophisticated over the years.  Your deployments are getting larger in scope and depth, implying that we need to look into deepening and enriching our technical materials accordingly.

  • You're doing more with less:   A repeated theme this year was that many of you are doing more with less.  The technical complexity of your environments is rising faster than your staffing budgets, and the resulting squeeze is getting increasingly uncomfortable.  My focus is more architecture than system administration, but I'll try to expand the scope of this blog to cover tips on improving your Apps sysadmin experience.  If there's sufficient demand, I'll see whether I can convince future OpenWorld and Collaborate technical chairs to accept a paper on a topic like, "X Essential Tips for Making Your Life as an Apps Sysadmin Easier."
And now, back to our regular programming.  Due to the conference, I've got lots of announcements in my backlog to write up; stay tuned.

OracleAS 10g 10.1.2.2 Certified with Apps 11i

The wait is over, at least for Linux platforms:  Oracle Application Server 10g 10.1.2.2 has been certified with the E-Business Suite Release 11i.

DMZ + OracleAS 10g + E-Business Suite Architecture:

Just to ensure that there's no confusion about what's been certified, the full name of this patchset is:
This latest certification includes the use of the following Oracle Application Server 10g components with Apps 11i:
  • Discoverer 10g
  • Portal 10g
  • Web Cache 10g
Just for Linux... For Now

This patchset has been certified for Linux platforms only

We're working on the 10.1.2.2 certification for other platforms for E-Business Suite environments, but as usual, I don't have have a firm schedule for these other certifications or the other platforms yet.  You're welcome to monitor or subscribe to this blog for updates on the remaining certifications.
