[Apr 29, 2008 Update: Added HP Tru64 UNIX to the list of certified platforms]
The 10gR2 (10.2.0.3) database has been certified with the E-Business Suite Release 11i. This is the latest version of the 10g Release 2 Database that is certified with Applications 11i. The full name of this patch set is:
- Oracle Database 10g Release 2 (10.2.0.3) Patch Set 2 (Patch 5337014)

What's New?
This patch set includes an extensive number of fixes related to performance, stability, and security. The number of actual fixes is too long to list here (or for me to count individually), but if you're interested in drilling down to the details, the full list is published in:
- Bugs fixed in the 10.2.0.3 Patch Set (Metalink Note 391116.1)
Oracle's Own Global Single Instance
I've mentioned before that I'm wary about companies that don't use their own products. You should be, too. As part of our certification process for this patch set, Oracle upgraded its own Apps 11i Global Single Instance to 10gR2 10.2.0.3 in March 2007.
Supported Upgrade Paths
If your E-Business Suite environment is already on an earlier version of the 10gR2 database, you can upgrade your database to this patch set.
If you're on an older version of the database, it's definitely worth considering an upgrade now. You can upgrade to 10gR2 (10.2.0.3) from Oracle8i Release 3 (8.1.7), Oracle9i Release 1 (9.0.1), Oracle9i Release 2 (9.2.0), or Oracle 10g Release 1 (10.1.0).
You can also upgrade to this database release if your Apps environment is configured to use Real Application Clusters (RAC) or a split-configuration (where your database tier runs on a different operating system platform than your application tier).
Certified Operating System Platforms
The following platforms are now certified:
- Linux x86 (32-bit)
- HP-UX PA-RISC
- HP Tru64 UNIX
- IBM AIX
- Linux Itanium
- Linux x86-64 (64-bit)
- Microsoft Windows Server (32-bit)
- Sun Solaris SPARC (64-bit)

Hi Steven,
Should the following R12 10.2.0.3 database patch (5989146 APPSST - REQUEST TO BUNDLE 10.2.0.3 ONE-OFFS NEEDED FOR APPS R12) be applied to 11.5.10.2 instances on 10.2.0.3 as well? Also, is the GSI instance on 10.2.0.3 11.5.10.2 or R12?
The patch contains several optimizer bugs that people might want:
5470076:High wait times for ENQ:OQ - XSOQHIALLOC
5199213:RESULT OF A QUERY IS NOT RETURNED WHEN ACCESSING VIEW WITH UNION ALL
5302124:APPSPERF RDBMS OPTIMIZER DOES NOT PUSH JOIN PREDICATES INSIDE WINDOW FUNCTION
5893501:MLR #1 FOR 10.2.0.3 OPTIMIZER/SQL EXEC FIXES FOR GSI
5908594:MLR #2 FOR GSI FOR OPTIMIZER/SQL EXEC FIXES ON TOP OF 10.2.0.3
5385629:PUSH PREDICATE OPTIMIZATION NOT HAPPENING FOR SQLX VIEW
5254539:INTERNAL ERROR CODE ON EXECUTING HIERARCHICAL QUERY
Thanks,
-Michael

Hi, Michael,Our internal instance is on 11.5.10 right now. The upgrade to Release 12 missed the first upgrade window earlier this year due to our quarter close. It's planned for later this year.In general, if our official documentation hasn't been updated for a particular patch, it could mean:a. The patch hasn't been certified with the particular Apps release yetb. We tried it, but it didn't workc. We tried it, it worked mostly, and we've asked for additional fixes to be added before recommending it for Apps customers I'll have to ask our Apps database certification team to weigh in on the case for this particular patch.Regards,Steven

Hi, Michael,I've gotten confirmation that patch 5989146 is not recommended for Release 11i environments. We are attempting to decouple the 11i and R12 requirements. That patch apparently still is in the works while we certify 10.2.0.3 with R12, too.Regards,Steven

Steve - We recently uprgaded to 10.2.0.3 on Jan 19 . We are on 11.5.9 CU2.
We seem to be hitting most of the bugs mentioned above i.e.
However its not in interop note , please advice further.
I will appreciate if you reply quickly we havent had a single day with out performance issues ever since the upgrade. ORACLE teams are actively engaged.
Thanks and Regards,
Nandita

Nandita,It sounds like IKON's issues should be escalated as a group through our Customer Programs channel. If our Applications Performance team isn't engaged yet, they can be pulled in through this escalation process. Can you email me details about your Oracle Account Manager, your Enterprise Support Delivery Manager, and your open SRs?Regards,Steven

Hi
We are in similar boat. Upgraded to 11.5.10.2 with 10.2.03 database?
Any specific fixes or references on stats generation and performance improvements are greatly appreciated.

Hi, Prabs,
I'm sorry to hear that you're struggling with this upgrade. You should note that we've also just recently certified the 10.2.0.4 database with the E-Business Suite:
10gR2 10.2.0.4 Certified with Apps 11i -
http://blogs.oracle.com/stevenChan/2008/07/10gr2_10204_certified_with_apps_11i.html
I would recommend logging formal Service Requests via Oracle Metalink for any performance-related issues that you might be encountering. Our Support team will work with you to see whether these are resolved by 10.2.0.4 (or other 10.2.0.3 one-time patches), or actually require E-Business Suite patches to resolve.
It's also possible that you may have deeper performance-related issues with your E-Business Suite environment that may be ultimately unrelated to 10.2.0.3, but were just revealed as part of your upgrade. For example, some customers have found that JVM memory leaks in their EBS customizations were hidden in previous DB releases but discovered upon upgrading to the latest version.
If this is the case, you should work with your Oracle Support Engineer to get our Applications Performance Group engaged, if needed.
Regards,
Steven

FYI
Client ADI is not supported on 10g, you have to move to Reports Manager, webADI and Account Hierarchy. Steve, I don't see this mentioned anywhere on your site and thought it was worth mentioning. I also didn't see it mentioned in any 11i/10g upgrade docs ...
Cheers

Hi, David,
Thanks for pointing that out. I don't have a lot of visibility into ADI and its prerequisites, so I appreciate your filling in the blanks here. I'll pass your comment to our ADI team, in case they'd like to amend either the ADI documentation or add a proviso to our existing 10g DB Upgrade documentation.
Regards,
Steven

Hello Steven
Apparently client ADI is in the process of being certified on 10G now, is that correct ? You said it on another page. How long does the process take ? Why does it say on nearly every page I look on regarding ADI and 10G that they have no intentions of trying to certify the above and now all of a sudden they are doing it ? Why don't Oracle announce these things so everyone know what is going on.
Thanks
David Browne

Hi, David,
I appreciate your frustration. There are limited options for notifying customers about upcoming certifications today, which is the fundamental reason why I started this blog as a workaround a few years ago. Our Certify database is rather elderly and cannot be easily updated to account for new requirements like this.
I've passed on your comment to our Metalink team.
In the meantime, you might be pleased to read my recent article:

Steven
