Oracle E-Business Suite Technology

Hello there, just few questions: after official release, how much infomation there will be about this kind of change?, and if so, how it will be organized? (on customization, upgrade, administracion) there will be a 12i especial center/mega-note?

Well, the Note that I've referenced is the official documentation that's intended to support you through the migration of your customizations for Release 12.  That Note points to detailed documentation that's intended for developer-class readers (some of that referenced documentation may as yet be unpublished).  If you need more information than what's available, please let us know the specific areas that need bolstering.  You can do that by logging a Service Request via Metalink.  Feel free to copy me on the SR number if you decide to go that route.Regards,Steven

I'm interested to find out if there is any direction for Oracle Application Express (APEX) in relation to mod_plsql not being supported. I've worked on a handful of projects with APEX integrated to Oracle Applications, and all are using mod_plsql to integrate. Having to do a separate Oracle Application Server install purely for APEX isn't very nice! Thoughts?

Hi, Gareth,Right -- that's pretty much the only architecture supported for Release 12 if you're dependent on mod_plsql.  There's no way of reenabling mod_plsql on the Release 12 application tier itself, so hosting it externally is the only viable architecture.I've passed your feedback on to our architects for this area.Regards,Steven

i manage to upgarde out test enviromant successfully from 11.5.10.1 to R12 and every thing is working fine excpt the cusomzed module even though we follow the oracle customization standerd and they used to work before upgrade. so i was wondering if there is any note or hint that can help me solve my issue. the issue is when i try to open the customized form i am getting "function not availabe to this responisblity" i will arrange to open a TAR.

Just wanted to get some clarification on mod_plsql's future, outside of the Oracle Apps arena, is there a commitment to keeping mod_plsql supported in future releases of the Oracle database?

Hi, David,I can't speak for Oracle Application Server's plans officially since I'm part of the Applications development division.As far as I'm aware, the Oracle Application Server development team plans to continue to support the generic use of mod_plsql.  That said, it never hurts to log a Service Request against Oracle Application Server to get an official reply from that team.Regards,Steven

So I'm clear... will apex work on R12 or not?
We use it in 11i to give us a supportable way to give access to data that can't be easily combined in the application (from different pages/etc).

Yes, Application Express (APEX) can be used to develop those types of extensions. The Applications Express Development team is currently working on some guidelines on how to integrate APEX with the E-Business Suite.

I don't have a specific release date for that whitepaper yet, but you're welcome to monitor or subscribe to this blog for updates, which I'll post as soon as they're available.

You might also find a comment from APEX Development about their future plans of interest -- it's attached to the following article:

Hi Stevan,

Instance is at 11.5.10.1 with database 9.2.0.6.

Plan is to upgrade to R12 with 10.2.0.4 so we can follow path A as per Note: 467778.1 but for 10g upgrade minimum prereq is 11.5.10.2 as per Note:362203.1.

Do you think we should also upgrade 11510CU1 to 11510CU2? In my openion it shouldnt be required as we shall use filesystem of R12 so anyways we are not going to use filesystem of 11i anymore. Please confirm my understanding is correct, if not advise.

The Release 12 Upgrade Guide (http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/cd/B34956_01/current/html/docset.html) shows a supported upgrade path from either 11.5.10 Base, 11.5.10.CU1, or 11.5.10.CU2.

However, Note 362203.1 explicitly states 11.5.10.CU2 as a prerequisite for the 10gR2 database upgrade.

Given that you must have the highest common denominator in place, you need to upgrade to 11.5.10.CU2 if you wish to follow a fully-supported and certified path here.

Thanks Stevan for the reply and wishes.

I am fully not convinced on applying CU2 before 10g upgrade on 11.5.10.1 in context of R12 upgrade. Since we shall install filesystem using rapidwiz for R12 in chapter 1 of upgrade guide (Part No. E12011-01) and lateron shall be upgrading the database in chapter 3. Here applying CU2 doesnt make sense to me as the filesystem instance would be using is of R12.

I *do* understand what you're trying to say.

It's always possible to take shortcuts, but recall that our official documentation and certified procedures are based on testbed environments where no steps have been skipped.

If you encounter a problem at a later stage, Oracle Support's standing instructions are to backtrack what's been done to an environment. If they find any divergence between what's been done vs. the official documentation, they will instruct you to redo whatever steps were missed or "improvised upon."

I can't officially recommend that you skip any steps or prerequisites in linked chains of documentation, for obvious reasons. Skilled DBAs and experiencd sysadmins can sometimes find more elegant ways of accomplishing the same goals. If you choose to go that route, my advice would be to document carefully what you've done and to test the end-point environment thoroughly.
