Oracle Techcast Featuring... This Blog

Justin Kestelyn, OTN's Editor-in-Chief, and I managed to sit down for a few minutes yesterday at OpenWorld to talk about the impetus for this blog, my team's charter, and a few other general topics.

Hi Steve,

Its good to hear your interview in voice. I think the point you raised is very valid that EBS tech info is all hidden within the Metalink.

I find it very unfair that Metalink access is available to a selected few only. Knowledge must not be restricted by Firewall of Metalink.

Will Oracle consider opening up metalink to the www ( in read-only mode)?

Thanks,
Anil Passi

Steven Chan:

Anil,I'm in Development.  Metalink is run by Oracle Support.  Unfortunately, I don't have any insight into future plans about Metalink access. In theory, every current Apps customer has access to Metalink, since it's a rare customer courageous enough to run the E-Business Suite without an Oracle Support licence of some kind.In practice, I know that some companies have internal policies that restrict Metalink access to a limited number of DBAs.  If you work for an organization that does this -- and you're one of the unlucky ones locked out of Metalink -- it might be worth finding out why, and negotiating with your management team for loosening your internal policies on this.Best of luck, by the way.Regards,Steven

Thanks Steve,

I have access to Metalink, but I had raised the issue on behalf of many others that wish to Learn Oracle Apps. Thanks for your response, I agree it falls within Oracle Support domain.

Cheers,
Anil Passi
