Introducing Mike Shaw, Guest Author

I'm extremely pleased to welcome Mike Shaw as a new contributor to this blog.  Mike is a senior member of our global Oracle Support Advanced Technologies team, and is a key part of the core group of engineers we count on to handle the really hard customer technology stack problems.

Mike's unique experience brings a fresh outlook to this blog and I'm looking forward to reading his posts... I expect to learn something myself.  You can expect practical tips and guidance on using our latest technologies, based on insight drawn from his work on the front lines with you and countless other Apps DBAs.

Here's a short bio:

Mike Shaw is an Advanced Resolution Engineer, working in the Oracle Support Advanced Technologies team out of the Thames Valley Park offices in Reading, England.

Mike joined Oracle in 1997, initially with the Financials Support team but moved to the Applications Technology Support after 1 year to better match his technical focus.

His career in IT started August 1979, always being in a customer-facing Support or Implementation role for Accounting systems.

Stay tuned... his first article is coming soon.

Hello and Welcome Mike,

I (as all others I hope) glad to have opportunity to communicate with this high level Oracle Apps DBA.
Just wonder could you share with us (in one of the future your posts) the fist 5 things you are looking at first time been connected to unknown for you Apps environment, in order to check if the environment is more or less installed and maintained correctly?
May be you can give us your thoughts on how to implement OATG patches. How much functional testing has to be involved? Is it good idea to install ATG patches on regular basis? Would 3 month cycle be appropriate for it? Would you recommend installing every CPU patch in Apps environment?
What are top 5 mistakes you have seen on customers sides in context of Apps implementation and maintenance.

Thank you in advance,
Looking forward to read you articles,
Yury
