Hi Steven,
It is nice to see new posts from you.
"Split Configurations" + "Shared Apps configuration" looks very attractive to me in terms of Apps SW management.
You need to apply patch just once even if you have got multiple DB and Apps nodes in you configuration.
Some customers of mine saying that is isn't recommended configuration.
Oracle recommends to keep CM tier on the same hosts as DB is running.
Just wonder if you can advice on the issue?
Thank you in advance,
Yury

Yury,That recommendation no longer applies. With the high-bandwidth networks available today, combined with the fact that CM Tier hosts typically run in the same data centre as the Database Tier hosts, you can safely put the CM services on a different server.Regards,Steven

Steven,
Does a split configuration - lets say a HP PA-RISC server for the application tier and Hp Itanium server for DB tier both running HP-UX - mean that a patch only need to be applied once? So there's no need to apply a both a 'PA RISC' and 'Itanium' patch?

Hink,No, split configurations don't yield any direct savings in patching times.Remember that database tier patches are usually quite distinct from application tier patches. For example, if you're applying a 10gR1 database patch, that can't be applied to your Oracle9i Application Server 1.0.2.2.2 ORACLE_HOME, and vice versa.I plan to put together a short article on sharing a single filesystem-based APPL_TOP between multiple application tier nodes; this has direct savings in patching times. Until then, check out Note 233428.1, "Sharing the Application Tier File Systemin Oracle E-Business Suite 11i".Regards,Steven

Hi, Steve,
Is splite configuration (10gR2 and 9i) stable and safe on ADM x86_64/LinuxRH 4(64)/Sun Servers?
Currently we have 9i Database plus e-Business Suite 11i.5.9 on LinuxRH 3 all on 32bit/Sun boxes.
is this fully supported by Oracle? just want to confirm.
Can we upgrade to 10gR2 (migrate to x86_64) and latest e_Business Suite version (x86_32) with this split configuration?

Hello, Kimberly,
Yes. Both IBM AIX and Sun Solaris SPARC are fully supported platforms for both the application tier and database tiers for your targetted configuration. This means that you can run application and database components on either platform.

Steven

Hi Steve,
We have 11.5.9 on windows 2003 R2(32 bit) with 9.2.0.5 database. We are facing lot of memory issues these days even after deploying /3GB switch.
In meantime I went through your notes regarding split configuration.
We are planning to migrate the database to windows 2003 64bit.
I need to confirm from you which path should we follow.
1.Upgrade database from 9i to 10gr2 and then migrate to 64bit server.
2.Migarte 9i to 64bit server and then upgrade to 10gr2?
Even we have plans for 11.5.10.2 but it will take time
Your valuable points will be very helpful for us.
Thanks
Mamta

Hi, Mamta,
Our Applications Platforms Group confirms that Option 1 is the way to go, since 9i is not certified for Windows Server 2003 (x64).
Best of luck with your implementation.

Steven

Steve,
Do you any reffrences on Customer running:
* Oracle eBusiness Suite Version 11i release 11.5.10.2
on HP Itanium
* Oracle Database 10g release 2 on Solaris SPARC
is there any issue/concern we should consider in order to implement this architecture ?
Thanks and regards,

Hi, Arifin,
I know that we have customers running their EBS environments on both of these platforms with no issues. I don't have specific deployment figures handy, though.
If you're looking for formal references, your best option would be to ask your Oracle account manager to contact the Oracle Global References program on your behalf.

Steven
