Why use two different OracleAS 10g releases in two different ORACLE_HOMEs for the upcoming Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12? Because you asked for it, of course. Well, indirectly, perhaps. You've been asking us when E-Business Suite users can take advantage of the latest Oracle technologies. So, we're biting the bullet and putting them into our Release technology stack.
The latest version of Forms and Reports available today is included in Oracle Application Server 10g 10.1.2.0.2, so that release, at minimum, will be part of the E-Business Suite Release 12.
You've been clamoring for the ability to use Oracle Containers for Java (OC4J), the next-generation successor to JServ. The latest version of Oracle Containers for Java available today is included in Oracle Application Server 10g 10.1.3, so that release, at minimum, will be part of the E-Business Suite Release 12, too.
The slightly tricky thing is using these two releases together. In a nutshell, all major services will be started out of the 10.1.3 ORACLE_HOME. The E-Business Suite modules (packaged in formsapp.eap) will be loaded into the OC4J-Forms instance running out of the 10.1.3 ORACLE_HOME, and frmweb will be invoked out of the 10.1.2 ORACLE_HOME.

Just some thoughts...
Would it be benefical to have future builds that contain both the latest Forms & Reports and OC4J? Would the cost of creating a single Oracle Home on the Application Tier ultimately outway the cost of support, documentation, and maintenance (especially all of those extra security patches)?

Thanks for the thoughts, Paul. This, too, has been the source of much debate internally.
While we wouldn't rule out the possibility, it's important to note that the future of the E-Business Suite technology stack will inevitably hold multiple ORACLE_HOMEs, since Oracle Application Server 10g is explicitly architected that way.
For example, sysadmins wishing to implement Single Sign-On and Oracle Internet Directory will have a separate ORACLE_HOME for that, and other sysadmins wishing to implement Discoverer will have yet another for that, too.
The main advantage of this approach is the ability to spread services easily across multiple machines and clusters, making it relatively easier to scale up as your users and requirements increase.
The overhead of managing and patching these multiple ORACLE_HOMEs is reduced by Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM), which I hope to profile here at some point. Until then, I'd recommend looking up OEM and its system management features, since E-Business Suite sysadmins can take advantage of this excellent suite of tools today.

Could you please confirm I understand well the new 12 architecture?
The 8.0.6 Oracle_home will be replaced by the 10.1.2 while the 9iAS will be replaced by the 10.1.3?

The AS10G is certified by 11.5.10, but only for sso, disco, portal, OID,...etc.
Is there any plan to certify it with Apache, pmn... in 11.5.10?

No, there are no plans to upgrade the Release 11i application server from 9iAS to OracleAS 10g. Release 11i will continue to use 9iAS, and integrate with external OracleAS 10g instances for specific services such as Single Sign-On.Regards,Steven
