I have recently been working using the Oracle BPEL Process Manager to interact with Siebel classic. While there have been some challenges, the overall expereience has been positive. I expected everything to work and believe that I am close to some best practices in the area. I certainly have discovered lots of this you should not be doing! I expect to have something published on this subject by the end of May.

Rich,
Are you going to share these best/worst practices with us? I've heard that BPEL should have a lot of application in the integration area, particularly around error handling.

I really do need to develop this more. Unfortunately right now project demands are limiting my free time. This is a crucial area for clarity since BPEL is a huge part of future architecture both for applications and integration.

So, did you get a chance to integrate Siebel with BPEL??
I'm pretty interested in integrating Siebel Quote to Order tied with BPEL to talk with OFA. My pet project
It would be great if you can share us what you encountered, especially the pitfalls.

I have but will admit it has been a while since this was done. Recently I have been working with a client using a (gasp!) non-Oracle ESB. That work has tied me up for the past few months but it looks like I will have some more time to work with the SOA suite now.
I can't recall any specific gotchas on my previous work in this area which is a shame. Now that it appears I have some more time I will be dusting off the effort and using the new Siebel 8 version to conduct tests. I suspect most of the issues I ran into involved namespace configuration and WSDL import in Siebel. The good news is that I don't remember any "show stoppers" that couldn't be worked around but the bad news is that I don't have any specifics to share right now. Please check back at a future date for more info. Knowing people will actually look at what is posted is good motivation to get the work done.
Thanks for your post
