Has everyone seen the new slick UI for MetaLink's Software Configuration Manager? Thanks to Laurent Schneider for blogging about it; wasn't aware of it myself.
This looks like a pretty big step for customers who want to be hands-on about their environment - via info about applied patches and TAR status, as well as by getting advice for best practices. Very nice!

I know I keep banging on about it (literally years now) but I won't be uncorking the champagne until the Metalink search engine gets slick - or at least slicker. It is still way to hard to filter out all those utterly irrelevant (to me) Oracle Apps or RDB documents.
Cheers, APC

It's o.k. Still needs a lot of work though. It takes forever to load. The OCM software itself is still extremely buggy. (At least on AIX/RAC clusters) Removing and adding configurations is busted. And so on.
I was opening a lot of tickets on it but I'm too busy to be a full time beta tester for Oracle.

dude.
not cool.
flash content is NOT findable.
this interface is NOT usable.
its almost certainly a step in the WRONG direction.
metalink needs a human information architect, not yet-another pile of widgets.

bex, that is probably true - but improvement is always relative!

true...
I'm just upset because I know metalink doesn't need a Flashy interface... it needs a more findable interface. More and better search options, more and better browsing options. And persistent, easy to generate URLs.

'Bex' is exactly right. The search facility in Metalink leaves a lot to be desired. I'd call that pretty much the #1 problem with the site (other than Oracle's seemingly counter-productive restrictions on open read-only access)...but as that doesn't affect me personally... Search is numero uno!
