Oracle ACEs Rule

Man, there are some happy Oracle ACEs out
there.

Let's start with Andrew Clarke, one of the
"original" ACEs, who blogged about "On
Becoming an ACE" recently. As Andrew remarks, the perks may
not be "that great," but the community recognition is "priceless".
(Personally, I consider the Oracle ACE fleece pullover to be among the
most remarkable pieces of corporate swag ever foisted upon the
masses.)

Lewis Cunningham - who has a new tech
article about using SQL Developer reporting capabilities on
OTN, BTW - takes
the cake though. What a great post!

What
could be more gratifying than to see members of the Oracle community
like Lewis, who work so hard to "give back" to that community, rewarded
in some meaningful way for their efforts? This is what being the member
of a community is all about!

Remember, when you see
the next
to a byline, blog listing, or Discussion Forum handle on OTN, keep in
mind that you are encountering a highly valued member of the Oracle
community. If you know other people who deserve that recognition, be
sure to let
us know.

I'm working with the Department of Human Services, and have come across a unique database requirement. Of all the solutions you offer, you do not mention anything on Human Services and statistics.! NDHS is looking for a program to accumulate data on the population served by Emergency or Homeless Shelters, Juvenile Crime, Adoption Services, Domestic Violence, and City funded Counseling. Then, these statistics will be used to apply for Federal Grants, tracking individuals through the programs, chronic reoccurrences, peaks, trend lines, etc.
The program would have to handle large amounts of data, contain a GUI, of user friendly data entry interface, and handle a variety of reports. And since this is a government facility, need I mention cost is an important factor? So, what do you think? Is Oracle the right fit?

Beth, you're describing what is essentially a "CRM" challenge, with your "consituents" being the "customers." Basically, what you want is a single, unified view of a citizen's interactions across all gov't agencies, correct? Then I would take a look at the "Public Sector" solutions available under the Oracle CRM umbrella: http://www.oracle.com/industries/government/national-local-government.html

Hosted or installed deployments are available.

I prefer the original OTN Expert version. A useful thing to have in the wardrobe when review time comes round. Even the dimmest manager can understand the word "expert". Alas, mine is starting to "bobble" so I don't wear it now.

Definitely the best corporate swag I ever copped was a free stunt kite from (I think) IBM at OOW2K4 in London. It flew well and crashed rarely. Unlike - no, let's not go there.
