Coming Soon: The InstallPHP Series

The International PHP Conference, which is sponsored by Oracle this year, is under way in Amsterdam. (Read the show's blog here for updates from the floor.) Oracle's involvement this year is testimony to the fact that PHP developers are becoming more aware that, as the language becomes mainstream--and with the introduction of the more robust PHP5--integrating PHP-based Web applications with enterprise-class database technology is not only feasible but necessary.

In The Hitchhiker's Guide to PHP, OTN relayed advice from PHP community experts like Rasmus Lerdorf, Wez Furlong, and Andi Gutmans about coding practices and emerging enabling technologies such as PDO. And shortly, in the new InstallPHP Series, we'll take a hands-on deployment angle to help you install, configure, and harness the power of your PHP runtime (with thanks to Zend Technologies for their collaboration here). Look for the first installment in the next few weeks.

Until then, the PHP Developer Center on OTN contains a wealth of install guides, software, and resources to help you get started right now.
