As concern about the global environment continues to rise, Oracle is putting sustainability front and center by featuring a special Green Program at Oracle OpenWorld 2008.
Inside the Green Room, Sponsored By Accenture
To help evangelize environmental best practices—including many that also boost the bottom line—the Oracle OpenWorld agenda includes nearly 20 sessions devoted to sustainability. The series, called the Green Room, unites environmental thought leaders, government officials, and venture capitalist firms specializing in green technology.
Trading in the Green Marketplace
For the first time, Oracle OpenWorld also features a Green Marketplace, where attendees can explore leading-edge technologies that can reduce an organization’s environmental footprint.The conference even includes an onsite farmers’ market, where attendees can taste free samples and buy goods from local, sustainable businesses—from fresh produce to coffee and chocolate.

I would like to challenge any other Fiserv attendees to put more minutes on the bike generators than me!

It is very encouraging to see the conference planners' emphasis on the environmental impacts of our presence here and our industry. It's great to have biodgradable containers!
One sad note is the red Oracle banner touting the power company responsible for China's Three Gorge Dam project. Isn't that the one described by many as a man made environmental disaster of epic proportions? We all need to remember that whatever anyone does to this precious planet - we will all live the consequences.
