Exploring San Francisco, Part 3

To Lands End

LandsEnd.jpgParts 1 and 2 of Doug McConnell’s tour of San Francisco’s waterfront took us from the Ferry Building to Fisherman’s Wharf and Crissy Field. In Part 3 we reach the appropriately named Lands End.

Finally, if you can, take the time to get all the way west to Lands End and the renovated Cliff House. New and better trails have been developed, native plants are finding their ways back home, and the Cliff House has a fresh look with even better views of Seal Rock and the ocean beyond. These changes are all to the good, but fortunately, one thing that hasn’t changed since before the quake is the magnificent scenery all around.

I think that's what I like best about the immense transformations of the past two decades. We've kept the best of the old while revising the whole waterfront experience. We have new neighborhoods amidst restored buildings and landscapes and greater historic interpretation. Somehow, we've imagined the future while honoring the past. Not a bad combination. I hope you enjoy it all. As a resident, I do, every day.
