What I want instead of an iPhone

I walked down to Stacey's Bookstore today and spent some time and money on a tactile pleasure - books. Afterwards, I couldn't resist going to the Apple store to play with an iPhone. The first impression of the UI is certainly nice. In the few minutes I had with it I was panning, zooming and rotating so much I didn't even get around to needing to try the keyboard simulation.

I was reminded of my first Palm - a Palm Pro.  Every detail in it made sense.  [This was abysmally lost in later models like my current Zire 72 which, for example, doesn't have an indent in the buttons so you can press them with the stylus]. Those details were taken for granted.  They made it an efficient, pleasure to use during first touch and day to day forever afterwards. With the iPhone, its usability is still an unknown.

Enough reminiscing, or I'll start talking about things I miss from Australia.

What I really want now is not a new gadget - I want one of the huge iPhone window display units! Much more interesting and possibly cheaper in the long term.

PS battery life of the Palm Pro was measured in months.
