Clayton Donley - the founder of OctetString (and Oracle Virtual Directory) and who now runs Oracle Directory Services development team has joined our blog ranks!
I meant to post this yesterday but I spent last week on the road in lovely Minneapolis and I've been fighting a cold since I returned. Also I spent about 90 minutes yesterday in duck and cover as a couple of tornadoes flew by us in the North Dallas area (I'm based just north of Plano, Texas).
Now for the real reason for this post. Yesterday we released Oracle Authentication Services for
Operating Systems 10.1.4.0.1.
This first release is aimed at simplifying the authentication and account management process of Unix/Linux servers. While the base tools used to do this (e.g. PAM LDAP) are not new, in many organizations they have either had problems configuring PAM or did not have a directory server to store their accounts.
So OAS4OS is designed to help simplify the setup and management of this type of scenario.
In the future we are also looking to tackle the authorization problem as well but I can't share any information about that on the blog yet (don't blame me - blame revenue recognition rules :)). However, if you are interested, please talk to your account rep - who can arrange a meeting the PM team about the future direction of this product.
