One of our product manager's, Anshu Sharma has just had a new article published -- "Securing the
Enterprise - Linking Physical and IT Security".
It covers a topic that probably lies just below the surface in many
organizations - that is how to link together the access policies to
physical structures (buildings, rooms, offices, etc) with your internal
IT policies. In some cases this can be very secured using identity
cards that act as keys to gain access to locked rooms (how many large
organizations work today). Or it could just be an audit trail for more
informal systems (how I worked in higher-ed or at most small companies).
If you were at this year's Catalyst Conference - you could have even
seen a very cool demo of linking badges together with Oracle
Identity Manager.

In the biggest task that I have been involved with since arriving at
Oracle, we have released the latest version of the Identity Management
Suite including updates for Oracle Internet Directory and Oracle
Virtual Directory.
You can download the software here.
You can review most of the documentation here.
OVD Documentation is seperate (vestigal effect of acquisition
documentation format, should be in same location as IdM in the future):
For the OctetString team this really is monumental for us, in terms of
integration. We are now fully merged into the Oracle Directory Services
team. This gives us benefits in terms of scale ranging from support to
QA and by allowing each team (OID and OVD) to focus on their own
value-add, while leveraging the other product to help fill in gaps.
In terms of new features:
- OID 10.1.4 includes a filter for Active Directory that makes it easier to keep passwords in AD synchronized to OID.
- OVD 10.1.4 includes wizards that simplify configuring common tasks.
I congratulate all of the teams on the hard-work put in to achieve this release.
