I'm part of the Applications Technology Integration group within the E-Business Suite Development division. One of this team's responsibilities is to ensure that new Oracle technologies are integrated into -- or work with -- the E-Business Suite. Lisa Parekh leads our team, and every year she manages to pack a survey of the increasingly-broad EBS technology stack landscape at OpenWorld into her session. If you're interested in getting a quick overview of everything that we consider important about the latest EBS technology stack capabilities, download her presentation here:
Every year I provide an OpenWorld update on the various ways that E-Business Suite users can use different Oracle Application Server 10g components. This presentation covers many of the topics that I visit regularly on this blog, neatly summarizing them in a single package with the latest Fusion Middleware certified versions (and desupport notices) in one place: * Using Oracle Application Server 10g with E-Business Suite (Session S307958, PDF, 1.3 MB)
OpenWorld 2009 has kicked off with a bang. As in previous years, I was invited to share our latest E-Business Suite technology stack certification roadmap with the OAUG EBS Technology Stack Special Interest Group (SIG) members. Most of what I covered in this Roadmap discussion will be familiar to regular readers of this blog. Even if you've been keeping up with this blog's announcements, the convenient thing about this Roadmap presentation is that it summarizes our latest techstack certifications, desupport notices, support policy updates, and other important topics from the last year in a single, cohesive presentation.
We've been getting a lot of questions about how Oracle E-Business Suite Release 11i customers can take advantage of some of the standalone solutions from Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12. There are many significant functional innovations and new capabilities in R12.1, but some of you have indicated that you don't have the time or the budget to upgrade from Oracle E-Business Suite Release 11i yet. Nadia Bendjedou has an OpenWorld session in which she'll be covering options for Apps 11i users to advantage of Apps 12.1 standalone applications:
The drumbeats are getting louder for OpenWorld 2009 every day. Every year brings new additions to our Oracle family of products, and this year's sessions are even more densely-scheduled than previous years. A useful way of cutting through the noise are the "Focus On" documents for each major product family. The "Focus On" documents highlight just the Oracle sessions and events that are relevant to a particular content stream. All of the major content streams at OpenWorld have their own "Focus On" documents.
Oracle OpenWorld in San Francisco is our biggest conference of the year. It's always a real treat to see what some of the best minds in the Oracle community have to share. I hope that I'll get a chance to meet some of you in person at this conference. I'll be presenting and participating in a few sessions again this year:
Over the years, this blog's readership has proven that you're paying close attention to even the smallest details posted here. This keeps me sharp. I wouldn't want eidetic memory, but something better than my current wetware storage and retrieval system would be nice. As part of my fact-checking for a recent blog article that touched on Oracle's own E-Business Suite global single instance, I was hunting around for an OpenWorld 2008 presentation to verify some vaguely-remembered details about hardware model numbers. Much frustration ensued.
It turns out that getting one's hands on OpenWorld presentations can be a bit tricky. If you were an OpenWorld attendee, you had the dubious privilege of purchasing all of the presentation materials on a DVD kit. I don't think I will ever understand the marketing mindset.
Thankfully, you can still download individual OpenWorld presentations from the online session catalogs for the previous two years. If you're looking for presentations from previous conferences, bookmark these two links:

E-Business Suite sysadmins know that there are a lot of different ways to deploy their system in production. You can split EBS services across multiple application tier and database tier server nodes, you can scale up with load-balancers and Real Application Clusters, you can integrate your E-Business Suite instance with optional external services like Oracle Single Sign-On and the Oracle SOA Suite, and much, much more.
The number of architectural options can be pretty bewildering, and it can be difficult to get a high-level overview of the relative benefits of each option. We have lots of detailed documentation and introductory blog articles on, say, implementing RAC, but it's very difficult to get a sense of whether you can combine a reverse proxy in front of a load-balanced cluster with a RAC-enabled database tier (this is feasible, by the way).
I'm going to get through my OpenWorld backlog eventually. If I'm lucky, I'll be done just in time to start working on my OAUG/Collaborate backlog for next year's conference in Florida.

Humana's recent OpenWorld case study gives a customer-centric view of how they implemented a high-availability architecture for their E-Business Suite environment. Lyn Pratt and Richard Exley from Oracle's Server Technologies MAA Group and Metin Yilmaz from Oracle Support complemented that case study with a discussion of the various options for ensuring high availability and business continuity via a disaster recover site for your E-Business Suite environment:

Every EBS system administrator knows that you need to consider high-availability requirements when planning your E-Business Suite implementation. You need to account for the peak number of concurrent users who will be using the E-Business Suite at any given time. You also need consider worst-case scenarios and your plans if one or more servers in your environment go down.
Elke Phelps, co-author of the Oracle Applications DBA Field Guide (mini-review), discussed Humana's recent experiences in upgrading their E-Business Suite for high availability in this session:

We have an Applications Performance Group whose raison-d'etre is to ensure that the E-Business Suite runs at peak performance in all circumstances. This team has helped tune the world's largest companies and their E-Business Suite environments to handle staggering amounts of transactional volume in enormous databases. This is the same group that publishes all of the official Oracle Apps benchmarks, white papers, and performance metrics.
Their OpenWorld sessions are a perennial favourite with hardcore Apps DBAs looking to squeeze out the last ounce of performance out of their existing hardware. Isam Alyousfi and Lester Gutierrez from our Applications Performance Group share their hard-won performance tuning tips in this in-depth session:

It's possible to integrate the E-Business Suite with external applications via a number of different interfaces and methods, including interface tables, concurrent programs, XML messages, EDI messages, PL/SQL APIs, Business Service Objects, and Business Events. There are over 2,500 service enabled integration points for the E-Business Suite today, with more being added regularly.

To kick things off with some shameless self-promotion, here's a spotlight on one of my own OpenWorld sessions:
Our OpenWorld preparations are at a fever pitch right now and I can barely see the top of my inbox. One of my colleagues, Biju Mohan, has an OpenWorld session that will be useful if you're evaluating the Applications Management Pack. As part of his session, Biju and an EBS architect from GE Infrastructure will be discussing how GE Infrastructure running multiple Oracle E-Business Suite production systems was able to save $200k and also reduce DBA time by 84% by using Application Management Pack (AMP) for Oracle E-Business Suite (AMP).
