The Exadata Database Machine Version 2 was released at OpenWorld 2009 to great fanfare. Since its unveiling, I've been getting a steady stream of questions from E-Business Suite customers who are intrigued by Exadata V2's potential. All 11gR2 Database Applications are Compatible The E-Business Suite and other OLTP applications will run on the Exadata V2 system if they're certified with the 11gR2 Database on Linux. Oracle E-Business Suite Release 11i is certified on the 11gR2 database, so it can run on Exadata V2 today.
Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.0 originally shipped with OracleAS 10.1.3 Oracle Containers for J2EE (OC4J) for running its Java-based content. Regular readers of this blog know that we certified OracleAS 10.1.3.4 with Apps 12 at the end of 2008, with additional operating system platforms following shortly afterwards. We've now certified Oracle Application Server 10g 10.1.3.5 OC4J with Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12. You can upgrade to OracleAS 10.1.3.5 OC4J directly from OracleAS 10.1.3, 10.1.3.3, or 10.1.3.4. This certification allows you to upgrade the OC4J components in your R12 techstack to get take advantage of the latest performance and stability improvements in this incremental patchset.
Secure Enterprise Search 10.1.8.4 was certified with Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.0 earlier this year. Our Applications Technology Group has just released their certification of Secure Enterprise Search 10.1.8.4 with Oracle E-Business Suite Release 11i and 12.1.1.
I'm very pleased to announce that the 11gR2 Database version 11.2.0.1 is certified with Oracle E-Business Suite Release 11i version 11.5.10.2. Existing Apps 11i environments currently running Oracle9i Release 2 (9.2.0), Oracle 10g Release 10 (10.1.0), Oracle 10g Release 2 (10.2.0), or Oracle 11g Release 1 (11.1.0) may be upgraded to the 11gR2 Database.
Our Applications Platforms Group has just released a flurry of new platform certifications for Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.1.1 for the 10gR2 10.2.0.4 Database Server. The following operating systems are now certified for database-tier only deployments: * Sun Solaris x86-64 (Solaris 10) * IBM: Linux on System z (Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 and 5, Novell SUSE Linux Enterprise System 9 and 10) * IBM: Linux on Power Systems (Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 and 5, Novell SUSE Linux Enterprise System 9 and 10) * Linux Itanium (Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 and 5, Novell SUSE Linux Enterprise System 9 and 10)
Our E-Business Suite Applications Technology Group recently released a new product, the Application Change Management Pack (ACMP), and a new version of their Application Management Pack (AMP).
The Application Change Management Pack is noteworthy because it provides three new tools for automating updates to multiple E-Business Suite instances:
Customization Manager automates the packaging of your customizations into AD-compliant packages that can be deployed across multiple E-Business Suite instances. Before packaging, the Customization Manager validates your customizations against Oracle's software coding best practices.

Patch Manager integrates with Oracle Metalink and automatically downloads and deploys different types of patches across multiple (single or multi-node) E-Business Suite instances.

Setup Manager helps manage functional setups that need to be duplicated across multiple E-Business Suite instances.

Oracle Secure Enterprise Search (SES) 10.1.8.4 is now certified with Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12. If you missed our late-2007 announcement about this certification, here's a recap of the basics. Secure Enterprise Search (SES) provides new search capabilities for R12: Apps users can search for E-Business Suite data using a unified search engine, with search results displayed based upon their Applications responsibilities. Searches can be performed on structured and unstructured data. Notably, search results respect multi-level security, including:

Like every sysadmin I know, I yearn for bigger, beefier servers for my E-Business Suite environments. I've been dreaming about the new HP Oracle Database Machine since its unveiling at OpenWorld 2008.
In case you missed that announcement, this is a server with mainframe-class street cred: up to 14 GB/second in raw I/O bandwidth, which translates to up to 50 GB/second when handling compressed data. Storage scales up to petabytes when combined with the HP Oracle Exadata Storage Server. This machine is optimized for handling huge Oracle databases, so it's inevitable that EBS customers with large databases have shown interest in this hardware.
The Database Machine runs Oracle Database 11gR1 11.1.0.7 and Real Application Clusters on Oracle Enterprise Linux 5.1. We've just certified Oracle E-Business Suite Release 11i with the 11gR1 11.1.0.7 database release, so it's now possible to run Apps 11i on this hardware.
Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.0 originally shipped with OracleAS 10.1.3 Oracle Containers for J2EE (OC4J) for running its Java-based content. Regular readers of this blog know that we certified OracleAS 10.1.3.3 with Apps 12 at the start of this year.
In a fitting end to the year, we've now certified Oracle Application Server 10g 10.1.3.4 OC4J with Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12. You can upgrade to OracleAS 10.1.3.4 OC4J directly from OracleAS 10.1.3 or 10.1.3.3. This certification allows you to upgrade the OC4J components in your R12 techstack to get take advantage of the latest performance and stability improvements in this incremental patchset. To make sure that there's no misunderstanding about what can be upgraded, the full name of this patchset is:
It's important to note that either OracleAS 10.1.3.3 or 10.1.3.4 are mandatory prerequisites if you plan to upgrade your Release 12 application tier to the latest certified version of Java 6.
Here's a great way to end the year 2008 for Certifications with EBS: Oracle Database 11gR1 version 11.1.0.7 is now certified with E-Business Suite Release 11i. 11.1.0.7 is the first database patchset available for the 11gR1 Release 11.1.0.6. Customers can upgrade to this version following the Notes listed in the Documentation section.
Our Applications Platform Group recently certified Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12 on Oracle VM and OEL 4 and RHEL 4. Following hard on the heels of that certification, here's another addition to our existing set of Oracle VM certifications for the E-Business Suite: Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12 is now certified on Oracle VM with 64-bit Oracle Enterprise Linux 5 and 64-bit Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 on x86-64.
This complements the Apps 12-corresponding announcement: Oracle E-Business Suite Release 11i has been certified with seven new platforms for DB Vault 10gR2 (10.2.0.4). This configuration is now certified with the following new operating system platforms:
Filling out our certification matrix for Oracle VM, our Applications Platform Group has certified Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12 on Oracle VM with 64-bit Oracle Enterprise Linux 4 and Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 on x86-64.
I'm pleased to announce that Database Vault 10.2.0.4 is now certified with E-Business Suite Release 11i and 12. For more details about Database Vault and how it works in E-Business Suite environments, see this article. This new certification brings improved performance and broader certification coverage for additional operating systems, too.
The weekend is fast approaching and my demon inbox still has not been appeased. Here's a quick announcement from our Applications Platforms Group about a new pair of platform certifications: Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12 (12.0.4 and higher) is certified on Oracle Enterprise Linux (OEL) 5 and Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 5 on the x86 and 86-64 hardware architectures.
