Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.0 originally shipped with OracleAS 10.1.3 Oracle Containers for J2EE (OC4J) for running its Java-based content. Regular readers of this blog know that we certified OracleAS 10.1.3.4 with Apps 12 at the end of 2008, with additional operating system platforms following shortly afterwards. We've now certified Oracle Application Server 10g 10.1.3.5 OC4J with Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12. You can upgrade to OracleAS 10.1.3.5 OC4J directly from OracleAS 10.1.3, 10.1.3.3, or 10.1.3.4. This certification allows you to upgrade the OC4J components in your R12 techstack to get take advantage of the latest performance and stability improvements in this incremental patchset.
Secure Enterprise Search 10.1.8.4 was certified with Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.0 earlier this year. Our Applications Technology Group has just released their certification of Secure Enterprise Search 10.1.8.4 with Oracle E-Business Suite Release 11i and 12.1.1.
Every year I provide an OpenWorld update on the various ways that E-Business Suite users can use different Oracle Application Server 10g components. This presentation covers many of the topics that I visit regularly on this blog, neatly summarizing them in a single package with the latest Fusion Middleware certified versions (and desupport notices) in one place: * Using Oracle Application Server 10g with E-Business Suite (Session S307958, PDF, 1.3 MB)
If you run Java-based applications in your organization, you're aware that you may wish to optionally update the Java Development Kit (JDK) libraries periodically to get the latest fixes for security, stability, and performance. This applies to the E-Business Suite, naturally, so we regularly release new certifications for the latest Java releases for EBS.
Perhaps lesser-known is that this also applies to external servers running Oracle Fusion Middleware -- also known as Oracle Application Server 10g. You may have deployed Oracle Application Server 10g on one or more application tier servers to use Discoverer, Single Sign-On, Oracle Internet Directory, Portal, or other Fusion Middleware services with the E-Business Suite.
Oracle E-Business Suite Release 11i is certified with Oracle Single Sign-On and Oracle Internet Directory 10.1.4. Single Sign-On and Oracle Internet Directory are part of Oracle Application Server (OracleAS) 10g 10.1.4. We certified EBS with the Oracle Application Server 10.1.4.2 patchset in early 2008, and followed this up with EBS certifications with the Oracle Application Server 10.1.4.3 patchset in February 2009.
You should be aware that the OracleAS 10.1.4.2 grace period will end in November 2009. After November 2009, you will still be able to download existing OracleAS 10.1.4.2 patches, but new patches will be issued only for the latest 10.1.4.3 release.
It's that time of year once more and I wanted to share some thoughts as you start to plan out your schedules for the OAUG Collaborate 09 conference in Orlando in May. Once again, this promises to be a huge combined event for all Oracle Applications customers. Registration is open and hotels are filling up fast. If you're still planning on attending but haven't registered yet, you might want to think about doing so shortly.
The Fusion Middleware team offered hands-on labs for the first time last year. These proved very popular, with standing-room only attendance. This year the labs cover Service Oriented Architectures (SOA), Applications Integration Architecture (AIA), Business Process Analysis, Identity Management, and Business Intelligence (BI) Apps with Oracle Applications. There are eight hands-on labs this year, all led by Oracle experts:
Oracle Web Center is a suite of development tools that can be used to build web-based applications using technologies such as SOA, JSR-168, and WSRP. The Oracle WebCenter Framework allows you integrate E-Business Suite Release 12 portlets into a custom web-based application.
We certified Web Center 10.1.3.3 with Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12 last May. Following up on that certification train, Web Center 10.1.3.4 is now certified with Apps 12 (12.0.4 and higher).

Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12 includes OracleAS 10.1.3 Oracle Containers for J2EE (OC4J) for running its Java-based content. We certified Apps 12 with OracleAS 10.1.3.3 in January 2008 and with OracleAS 10.1.3.4 in December 2008.
You should be aware that the OracleAS 10.1.3.3 grace period will end in July 2009. After July 2009, you will still be able to download existing OracleAS 10.1.3.3 patches, but new patches will be issued only for the latest 10.1.3.4 release.
Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12 includes OracleAS Forms & Reports 10g as part of its technology stack. EBS 12.0.0 shipped with Forms 10.1.2.0.2. We certified Forms 10.1.2.2 with EBS 12 in August 2007 and with Forms 10.1.2.3 in November 2008.
You should be aware that the Forms 10.1.2.2 grace period will end in April, 2009. After April 2009, you will still be able to download existing Forms 10.1.2.2 patches, but new patches will be issued only for the latest 10.1.2.3 release.
Oracle Secure Enterprise Search (SES) 10.1.8.4 is now certified with Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12. If you missed our late-2007 announcement about this certification, here's a recap of the basics. Secure Enterprise Search (SES) provides new search capabilities for R12: Apps users can search for E-Business Suite data using a unified search engine, with search results displayed based upon their Applications responsibilities. Searches can be performed on structured and unstructured data. Notably, search results respect multi-level security, including:

We're continuing to fill in the platform gaps for some of our recent techstack certifications. We certified Oracle Application Server 10g 10.1.3.4 with Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12 in December, 2008. The two exceptions to that certification at the time were for the IBM AIX and HP-UX Itanium operating system platforms.
HP-UX Itanium was later certified in January 2009, and now we're crossing the IBM AIX bridge. IBM AIX customers running Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12 may now upgrade to OracleAS 10.1.3.4 OC4J directly from OracleAS 10.1.3 or 10.1.3.3. This certification allows you to upgrade the internal OC4J components in the R12 techstack to take advantage of the latest performance and stability improvements in this incremental patchset. To make sure that there's no misunderstanding about what can be upgraded, the full name of this patchset is:
We announced our certification of Oracle Single Sign-On and Oracle Internet Directory 10.1.4.3 with Oracle E-Business Suite Release 11i and 12 a few weeks ago. The only exception to that certification at the time was for Apps 12 running on IBM AIX platform.
We've completed that certification now. IBM AIX customers running Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12 may now upgrade their external Single Sign-On and Oracle Internet Directory components to 10.1.4.3.
[Editor's note: Oracle version numbers sometimes require careful scrutiny. Hidden meaning can be discerned from seemingly-insignificant details. You may have noticed that the Oracle Identity Management 10g components fissioned off into their own release codeline a while ago. All Oracle Identity Management components whose version numbers start with "10.1.4" have their own maintenance patchsets now. These are distinct from -- but compatible with -- the other components in Oracle Application Server 10g released on the "10.1.2" codeline. Our E-Business Suite teams certify patchsets on both the 10.1.2.x and 10.1.4.x release codelines with the E-Business Suite.]
Oracle Single Sign-On (SSO) and Oracle Internet Directory (OID) 10g 10.1.4.3 are now certified with Oracle E-Business Suite Release 11i and 12. Existing Apps environments integrated with earlier version of SSO and OID can be upgraded to the 10.1.4.3 Patch Set. Customers on Single Sign-On and Oracle Internet Directory 10.1.2.0.2 must first upgrade to 10.1.4.0.1 before applying the 10.1.4.3 Patch Set. If you've already upgraded your SSO and OID components to 10.1.4.2, you may apply the 10.1.4.3 Patch Set directly.I've been puzzled by a resurgence in questions about the compatibility of E-Business Suite Release 12 portlets with third-party portals. I thought that I'd already covered this FAQ a few times on this blog, but searching through our archives, I see that I haven't revisited this topic formally since R12 was released. It's time for a quick refresher and update on what's supported in this release.
Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12 runs OracleAS 10.1.2 for Forms-based content and OracleAS 10.1.3 (OC4J) for Java-based content. Each of these two components can be upgraded separately, so each has its own independent certification cycle. Just before New Years, we certified Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12 with Oracle Application Server 10g 10.1.3.4 for a subset of our supported operating system platforms.
I'm pleased to let you know that HP-UX Itanium has been added to the list of supported platforms for OracleAS 10.1.3.4 (OC4J). You can upgrade to OracleAS 10.1.3.4 OC4J directly from OracleAS 10.1.3 or 10.1.3.3. This certification allows you to upgrade the OC4J components in your R12 techstack to get take advantage of the latest performance and stability improvements in this incremental patchset. To make sure that there's no misunderstanding about what can be upgraded, the full name of this patchset is:

In a fitting end to the year, we've now certified Oracle Application Server 10g 10.1.3.4 OC4J with Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12. You can upgrade to OracleAS 10.1.3.4 OC4J directly from OracleAS 10.1.3 or 10.1.3.3. It's important to note that either OracleAS 10.1.3.3 or 10.1.3.4 are mandatory prerequisites if you plan to upgrade your Release 12 application tier to the latest certified version of Java 6.
I'm going to get through my OpenWorld backlog eventually. If I'm lucky, I'll be done just in time to start working on my OAUG/Collaborate backlog for next year's conference in Florida.
I'm (still) highlighting OpenWorld 2008 presentations that cover some of the most popular E-Business Suite technology stack topics. A catalog of all of the Applications Technology track sessions with links to the presentations is available here:
Ramkumar Sekar, a manager in our Applications Technology Group, gave sneak previews of two new developer-oriented tools for extending OA Framework applications in this session:

As an enthusiastic Apple iPhone user, I am very pleased to see that our Applications Unlimited team has released their newest iPhone application: Oracle Business Approvals for Managers. This free (!) iPhone application allows managers to handle pending E-Business Suite actions related to expense reports, purchase order requisitions, human resources vacancies, and HR job offers. Managers can use this mobile app to evaluate pending EBS approvals, request more information, and approve or reject pending requests.
This iPhone app builds on the Oracle Business Indicators iPhone application. Oracle Business Approvals for Managers provides optional access to analytic reports related to the type of approval that users are reviewing. This configuration retrieves data from Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition Plus (OBIEE) or Oracle Business Intelligence Applications. All communications are secured via SSL encryption and may be optionally integrated with Oracle Identity Management components, too.
Here's a quick update on behalf of my colleagues in the Lifecycle Management team: If you're interested in an introduction to using the Applications Management Pack (AMP) with the E-Business Suite, there's a free webcast coming up next week. For registration details
It's been a little quiet since its inception, but the Lifecycle Management team has launched their own E-Business Suite Lifecycle Management (LCM) blog, too. I'm sure they'd appreciate the encouragement if you post suggestions, questions, or even a comment about your experiences with AMP.
