New IRC.E patch

This is my first post on my new Oracle blog. I intend to post information here about what we are doing in iRecruitment, and provide information about new things which we uncover. I'm not allowed to talk about dates for new functionality and so on, but hopefully I can still provide you all with some interesting information.

We have been working hard on fixing some issues and doing some minor enhancements on top of iRecruitment mini-pack E. We have released these fixes in patch 5055010. Take a look at the readme on metalink, because it's got 29 different things in there.

SSL in iRecruitment

We have discovered some issues with connecting to SSL servers from the database in iRecruitment. This applies to;

  • Background checking when the background check server uses SSL
  • Resume generation when the application server uses SSL
  • Posting adverts when the job board uses SSL
  • Posting adverts when using a custom stylesheer and the application server uses SSL
  • Geocoding when the geocode server uses SSL.
In each of these scenarios, iRecruitment will fail, and in many of the cases, the error will be masked, so it will not be clear why it fails. IRC.D customers may take patch
5039181 to resolve this issue. This patch will look at your server side wallet to pull out the SSL certificates. It is important to make sure that that is set up correctly, or the patch will not resolve your issues.

Our test_irc.sql script at metalink note 338342.1 has been updated to use the new code for the internal network test (for an SSL enabled application server), and for the background checker.

EDIT: removed a couple of items from the list, because they use an SSL connection from the middle tier, not from the database. This issue is just with the database network connections.

OHUG

I am going to be giving a presentation at the OHUG Spring Conference in Las Vegas in April. My presentation is going to be about how to get the most out of iRecruitment. I'm going to cover a fair bit of what I presented at the OHUG Fall conference in Orlando, so that the Las Vegas crowd can get the information too. I am also going to add in some new information about our new candidate registration flow, and about Offers, so that the twice a year OHUG die hards have something interesting to hear too. If there is anything specific along the lines of how to get the most out of iRecruitment that you think I might like to cover, just add a comment with your suggestion.

In addition to presentations, OHUG will be having some "Ask the Experts" sessions. Chris Simpson and I will be doing the iRecruitment sessions. Please do bring along some questions for us. It probably goes without saying that if you simply ask "what is going on with TAR 12345?", we probably won't be able to answer off the top of our heads, but we are keen to offer you any advice that we can.

Visit to India

I'm in India this week, visiting my team out here:
IDC Team:
It only took a day and a half to get here from London, and I got to see some of Delhi on the way. It's great to catch up with the team again though. Communication is far easier face to face than it is on the telephone, and we can gossip more too!
