Oracle Search Plug-ins
The Oracle Appslab crew have just posted an excellent plugin for searching Metalink content directly from your Application Browser. This MetaLink OpenSearch plugin adds a MetaLink search box on your browser enabling you to do a quick search for Metalink content.
This plugin will be "auto-discovered" from this blog (Firefox 2 or IE7). You need to look for the search box on your browser and add "Search Oracle Metalink".
Here is the part that I like the most:
If you use Firefox 2 and E-Business Suite (11.5.9, 11.5.10 or 12), you
have a bonus feature. Firefox allows you to send a selected string on a
web page directly to the active search engine (i.e. the one showing in
your search box) by right-clicking. So, if you hit an error or find a
term you don't know in EBS, simply select it, right-click it and send
it to the MetaLink search plugin. I suggest setting your Firefox to
open search results in a new tab (a change documented by Lifehacker). This will allow you to see the search results on MetaLink in a new tab, without disrupting your EBS session.
You should look at the screencast to find out how useful this feature can be. Besides Metalink plugin, number of other very useful plugins are available that let you search Oracle documentation from the search box. The only unfortunate part: its most effective if you are using HTML forms. You will have to open a new browser session for search if you are using Oracle forms.
