Steve Au Yeung is Senior Vice President for Oracle Asia Pacific. In this role, Mr. Au Yeung is responsible for managing Oracle’s operations across the region, including leading the sales and support of Oracle's technology, applications, and industry-specific software business.

1) Steve you have been with Oracle for almost a year, what are your thoughts of Oracle before joining Oracle and what is your view of Oracle now that you have had a chance to be inside it?

Let me start by saying that Oracle is a fantastic company, with great products, customers and partners. The opportunity to lead the Asia Pacific business is a great one and a role I was proud to take up.

The biggest surprises I have had since joining Oracle circle around 3 things: People, Product and Flexibility to get things done.

A. On a daily basis I am impressed by the Oracle people, they are dedicated, passionate and team players - and as such a delight to work with.
B. The power of our product portfolio and the commanding position in the market place, mean we are very strategic to our customers, and;
C. Finally, I am impressed by the level of Empowerment within the business model - managers can get things done - not everything - but compared to many companies I feel we have a good balance of empowerment and control.

2) Has the BEA acquisition significantly altered the Middleware landscape in APAC - if so where has the change been most significant?

Definitely, by combining Oracle Fusion Middleware and BEA's offerings we are now #1 globally and in Asia Pacific. What is most encouraging is that this year we have extended our lead ... a trend I expect to see continue.

3) What are some of the things that we are doing here at Oracle that gets you excited?

The product depth and strength increases on a daily basis - with each development and acquisition we become more strategic and "sticky" with our clients. This is a great opportunity and responsibility for us as individuals and as a company.

4) How is the APAC Business Community unique to other global regions?

There are many similarities and differences and balancing the local requirements within a global operation is key to our success. Simply put I believe we need to have our people as close to the
customer as possible whilst leveraging Oracle's global scale and strength.

5) Watch this space: It will be an exciting year coming up for Oracle in APAC because...

Oracle's product stack is stronger than ever and with the team in place we have a great opportunity to press our advantage across all product areas. We are very focused on realizing these opportunities and that will make Oracle in Asia Pacific a pretty interesting place to be in fiscal year 2010 and beyond.
