Oracle IRM Success Stories

In the 10 years since its release to the market, Oracle IRM has been very successful with many customers. Here are a few examples of how Oracle IRM is in use with customers today.
Renault has been competing for 30 years winning two drivers and two constructors championships. They came to Oracle to find a solution to managing and protecting their most valuable data, the “Crown Jewels,” the complete F1 car specification documents. They needed a solution which would.
  • Protect their investment of millions of dollars spent per race and throughout the race calendar
  • Allow access to information when race team is traveling all around the world, racing in 16 countries
  • Avoid incidents such as recent legal battle between McLaren and Ferrari which resulted in espionage sentences
Oracle IRM allowed Renault to integrate a document security solution with their Active Directory using Windows authentication to simplify authorized users access. They were able to silently deploy the Oracle IRM software to end users laptops and using Oracle patented offline technology, the team were able to access this information trackside, no matter where in the world they were.

Beckman Coulter, an international medical devices company based in California, use Oracle Information Rights Management to protect a range of proprietary and sensitive information used by about 500 field sales personnel – including product details, pricing information, customer case studies, and competitive analysis. Historically, this information took the form of a hardcopy sales resource manual updated annually.

To make the information easier to use and update, Beckman Coulter wanted to convert to electronic distribution. They also wanted to protect the information to ensure that it was not used or distributed in unauthorized ways and to ensure that access could be revoked, for example, when a sales person left the company. Oracle IRM not only enabled them to distribute this information securely in digital form but also ensures employees only have access to the latest material.

Johnson Matthey, a FTSE-100 specialist chemicals company, uses Oracle Information Rights Management to protect technical and commercial secrets. The initial project involved using sealed Word templates to simultaneously control access to monthly reports generated by one of Johnson Matthey’s technology divisions and streamline the report collation workflow. The division’s Managing Director and its IT Director shared a concern about the potential risk to critical intellectual assets including manufacturing methodologies, technical innovations, and commercial terms and performance.
Johnson Matthey has since expanded its use of the solution to protect sales and marketing information and board level documents as part of a phased enterprise-wide roll-out for 5000 users.
