Whilst Martin gets up to speed he sent me the following which I thought would be a great introduction. Martin has been working with Oracle IRM for many years and works out of the UK Oracle offices. The event is billed as an "occasion for European citizens to become more aware of personal data protection and of what their rights and responsibilities are in that regard."
I confess that is passed me by, but if you live in Europe and fancy checking out what YOUR country did to mark the day, it's all on the EU website. Don't get your hopes up too high. The UK events for the day apparently numbered two - a hospital in Liverpool held an event in its foyer, and the Information Commissioner revised its code of practice on CCTV. I feel better protected already.
Mind you, the Commissioner also marked the occasion by launching the Personal Information Promise initiative, which is no bad thing. "
