A month ago I mused on whether anonymity had a place in Enterprise 2.0 enabled workplaces. You'll recall that I concluded that it anonymity probably doesn't belong in E20 workplaces for a number of reasons.
Well enterprise web 2.0 pundit Chris Brogan had guest blogger GL Hoffman write on the subject just the other day.
Hoffman's conclusions were complementary and even stronger than mine. They are given salience by the present economy as well. In fact, I would go as far as to say that remaining anonymous in the workplace will kill you, or at least mark you as a reduction target. That's not to say that being out in front of your colleagues and industry will guarantee you keep your spot, but it will at least prevent management from wondering what it is you do.
Hoffman has 10 ideas on how to avoid anonymity at work. The Enterprise 2.0 technologies in the way they connect people and make it easier to syndicate ideas only help. Ideas 6 (be sales mined), 8 (always improve), and 10 (become an evangelist) especially resonated with me.
