The Neurology Behind Crowd Sourcing?

neurology1.bmp Scientists have found the region of the brain involved with making snap judgments, intuition, and gut feelings according to this PopSci blurb.

When you scale up the better than average intuition of individuals to tapping the wisdom of the crowds, you get ... what?
Group think - in a good way?
Prediction markets?
Trend spotting?
The Odds?

probably all of the above. So does the bad kind of group think only enter when we actually start thinking instead of reacting as a group?
