Poking the Bee Hive

bees:

Pie has some thoughts on my recent AIIM E-Doc Article.

He has some constructively critical comments that you should read HERE.

I appreciate the feedback but disagree. My take is that Pie feels like I pulled a bait-and-switch on him. The article isn't about making ECM more SOA friendly. It was about the ways that SOA and ECM and Web 2.0 come together coneptually. If this failed to be communicated the blame is mine (and my co-author's).

Pie's major critique in this area seems to be editorial - the way certain paragraphs were organized. Fine. That's a product of the editorial process.

The final thought offered is that SOA is not as necessary for Enterprise 2.0 as the article indicates. This is a meaty argument and one that deserves more space and thought from both Pie and me and others who are interested. If I understand correctly (and I may not so please correct me if I'm mis-characterizing the crux of the argument), Pie is pointing out that you can have enterprise 2.0 apps without SOA. I guess that depends on what you mean by E2.0. Defined broadly enough, sure. But those kinds of apps are boring and useless from an evolutionary perspective. Adding tagging to an app doesn't make it E2.0 (in my book).

Anyway, there is ripe ground here for discussion and debate which I welcome! Maybe James can poke the bee's nest a bit and scare up some responses. Pie, If I've missed the mark, let me know. Like I started off saying, I appreciate the exchange and honest critique.
