What Others Are Doing

If you've not checked out David Roe's Blog Content on Content Management recently (or ever) you should.  He has got some nifty samples for cool things to do with Oracle Universal Content Management.  His latest is a sample Adobe FLEX application HERE.  So now you have no more excuses for complaining about the look and feel of the Content Server.

Other cool things include a YouTube like app using the Digital Asset Management capabilities of Oracle UCM HERE

Cloud Computing with Amazon S3 and Oracle UCM HERE

As well as some tips and tricks and other goodies.

Meh

Open Text is trying to lash themselves to the latest enterprise marketing meme - Enterprise 2.0 (press release here).  Excuse me if I yawn, but buzzword laden press releases  - they actually use the phrases like "..holistic approach for their Enterprise 2.0 aspirations..." - and the repackaging of old technology makes me go "Meh".

Don't get me wrong, bringing Web 2.0 technologies into the enterprise is a good thing.  Issuing a "me too" press release is lame.

UPDATE: yeah, Pie gets it.

Another Blog to Read - Johns Blog

Via D.Roe comes a great link to Johns Blog.  I'll be adding it to the blog roll on the right and my own RSS reader.

Check out the great component he wrote for Oracle UCM to do an ajax-y LDAP/UserTable lookup as you type.

It's scripto-licious.

Context Mining the Full-Text Index

holygrail:

An open question to the readers: is anyone doing anything in the way of text-mining the full-text indices of ECM systems out there?

For some time Biz Intel tools have been able to do text-mining to look for keywords, patterns and tallies of important words and phrases in semi-structured content (think a "comments" area in a Call Center log).  But this is basically the application of traditional data mining and OLAP capabilities on different datatypes that still reside in (something that looks/functions very much like) a database.

Well, what about the full-text index that is maintained by ECM systems?  The ability to automatically pull context out of content items in an ECM system, mash up those contexts with more traditional BI and OLAP queries and usage tracking metrics (e.g. everything from folksonomic ratings and tagging aggregates to click tracking and download counts) seems to me like a kind of holy grail of BI.

I'm not talking about improved search performance.  So don't bother to reply with those kinds of answers. I am talking about merging capablities like THESE with traditional BI analysis and reporting.

AOL and Yahoo?

Maybe according to Engadget (click through for one of the BEST pictoral merger metaphors)

That could bode well for OpenID since both Yahoo and AOL are heavily invested in the technology whereas MSFT may have other designs in mind...

Semantic Web and Web 2.0

Check out the writings and cool musings of Dr. Jennifer Golbeck from the University of Maryland, College Park.

She's got some *VERY* interesting papers on the intersection of Web 2.0 and Semantic Web mindsets.
