Yep, Kominetz gets it right HERE when pointing out that ECM systems still have a huge hurdle to overcome when dealing with
1) the pervasive create in MS Office on my desktop paradigm
and
2) the extra clicks it takes to get items into the system in the first place.
While he points to Google Docs & Spreadsheets (cool, hip etc) as a potential paradigm shifter I'll promote invisible (or transparent, with a hat tip to Pie) ECM as the enterprise way to go. Throw in some Web 2.0 functionality to ease the contribution process and make it sexy looking and it's good to go.
While the all-inclusive model of Google Docs dissolves the content problem of how to stick it in (you create and edit and maintain all in the same "place") it does so at an unbearable enterprise cost - at least today.
