Information Relevance, Web 2.0 and Content Analytics

I came from Gartner's yearly Summit on Portals, Content and Collaboration in London last week. Here are my most important take aways:

- Information Relevance. The IT equation swings towards the I(nformation) more than the T(technology). I see the argument moving from "which features does an ECM solution need to have" to the more profound "how is it going to help me filter, discriminate the relevance of the information I need". I feel this is a very important change and one that is going to force us all to think in terms of: The users want to extract value out of the information they have and they want tools that can help them do that.

- Web 2.0 is huge in the corporate world. OK, we new that it was popular, but I was impressed to see the crowd quickly filling up the room when the title of the presentation included the buzz words- web 2.0, social networking. Bottom line, looks like more people than expected are using some web 2.0 tools already in the corporate environment which is great news.

- Content Analytics. I've discussed this many times, but I could see it at the event very strongly: a big trend is coming; one that is going to move companies to start doing more analysis on their content to extract conclusions and meaning out of it

Bottom line: putting the technology to manage the content is fine but needs to be complemented by means to analyze and decide about its value, and in this process the social aspect is going to be key.
