Have you packed your bags yet?

The event of the year for the treasury professionals in the U.S. and Canada is on the horizon, and it is time to reveal what we are doing at the AFP Conference.

(Just when you thought this would be another blog entry about Oracle OpenWorld.)

On October 21-24, 2007 a team of superhero sales consultants will descend on the floor of the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center to woo the crowd with the latest and greatest of Oracle technology.

Moreover, Oracle customer Michael Brown, Senior Vice President and Treasurer of the Centro Properties Group, will be presenting at one of the educational sessions. His session is titled, "Building Sustainable 404 Processes for Better Risk Management" and it is on Tuesday, October 23, 2007 from 2:00 p.m. 3:15 p.m.

For more details, go to the event page.

I will be there as well. So, stop by and say "hi"!

Treasury technology feature on gtnews.com

My favorite site for all things treasury gtnews.com (free registration required) is running a feature on treasury technology this week.

If you only have time to read one of the seven new articles, I will definitely recommend Elizabeth St-Onge's "Treasury: The Last Frontier of Automation". While the need for treasury technology is apparent and there is no shortage of options, the author points out a myopic view of the investment in treasury technology and competing priorities as two main reasons for the relatively modest adoption rates.

Coincidentally, in my presentation at the Oracle OpenWorld on November 14 (Session # S291194), I will be making a case for choosing treasury operations as the next target for business process automation. My co-presenter from Yahoo! will share their story of implementing Oracle Treasury.

Some companies have dedicated systems for each part of the treasury operations. Others manage multi-million dollar deals in spreadsheets. Where does your company stand on the treasury technology adoption curve?

If time doesn't fly, then where does it go?

Did you know that Oracle Financials turns twenty years old this year?  I think that twenty years in the software industry is like ten in dog years which is about seventy in human years.  Can you remember the early character-mode release of Financials?  We still hear about how much people loved character mode forms and how efficient those forms were.   Back in the day, our users basically spoke another language where "backslash", "navigate", 'quickpick", & "zoom" were words in their vocabulary.  Remember...this was before the internet and email were widely used!  For those of you wanting to to take a stroll down memory lane, here's an old screenshot that someone dug up for me.

Then2:

Financials has certainly come along way.  In some ways, it feels like we've done it all; and in other ways, it feels like we're just getting started.

Financials looks like this today....

Now2:

What do you think Financials will look like in 2027?
