Hi Dipock,

nice demo. Is there any specific reason why you didn't use symbolic URLs?

You can do the same thing and the URL is not buried in the calculated field. Example: google maps (http://siebel-essentials.blogspot.com/2009/02/google-maps-in-siebel-crm.html)

have a nice day

No specific reason other than I wanted to show how you could build the solution in 3 easy steps. Symbolic URL's are a great way to leverage the web. I don't think enough focus is spent on UI level integration. Analytics uses symbolic URL.s

The thing about Siebel is that there are multiple ways to do achieve the same result. For some that's a cure, and for others that's a cure.

Thank you Dipock, I totally agree with your point that there are multiple ways to do it. Albeit if you consider Siebel standard/vanilla/OOB then it uses 100% symbolic URLs to achieve portal integration (Oracle BI/Siebel Analytics, RTD, Actuate you name it).

What I would like to encourage is that when we present quick and elegant solutions on the web, they should also meet the requirement of being as close to the standard as possible.

This would prevent developers to simply copy the approach and end up with more upgrade effort than necessary.

Thanks again for providing so much valuable information in your blog.

Have a great day

Hi Dipock,
A good example of how easy it is to embed external UIs and how to possibly give an edge to customer management / siebel users.
What puzzles me is why Oracle simply does not ship siebel with a bunch of these possibilities. It hardly costs yo uany time and makes life so much easier for us as a customer. Yes we know we can do this, but we haev to raise chaneg requests, convince (old style management) people about the reason to do this and than spend outside consultancy hours to develop this. So much better if you guys create Twitter, linkedin, google map solutions in vanilla !!! Many Siebel users would immediately recognize the value and use it, opening up managers to a 'new' world.
