Oracle is now offering a new member of the HP Oracle Database Machine product line. As you all know we offered a fully configured rack containing the following (at a high level):
A database server grid containing 8 HP DL360 database servers
4 InfiniBand Switches
An HP Oracle Exadata Storage Server Grid containing 14 HP DL180 Servers
KVM etc...
This combination of hardware and software delivers approximately 20TB of user storage when using the 450GB SAS drives, or approximately 45TB of user storage when using the 1TB SATA drives. That effectively fills a cabinet as shown here:
Due to popular demand, addressing smaller entry points with the same extreme performance on the same technology basis, Oracle is now introducing a smaller system. This smaller system will provide similar scalability and performance characteristics as the full rack.
The HP Oracle Database Machine Half Rack Hardware SAS (or SATA) as it is officially known has the following high-level specs:
A database server grid containing 4 HP DL360 database servers
2 InfiniBand Switches
An HP Oracle Exadata Storage Server Grid containing 7 HP DL180 Servers
KVM etc...
As the name indicates, the choice between SAS and SATA disks is still available, respectively 450GB or 1TB capacity. The system, shown here, is now available in a 22U rack:

We at Oracle, and our customers, are very excited about this new offering, as it provides a slightly lower entry point for an HP Oracle Database Machine, while still delivering extreme performance.

I understand HPs exclusive for Exadata was for six months and about to expire. Who do I talk to about being considered for building/delivering/supporting Exadata's?

Hi Scott,
Actually there is nothing that will expire. We are working together with HP on this offering, and the 6 months exclusive is actually not true. So for now there is no other vendor we are working with.
