These are tough financial times, no matter where you sit. All of us in IT are retreating back to what's basic, what's essential, and what's critical for the business.
Alas, there's one ray of hope for all those Data Integration, Data Management and Business Intelligence folks out there. It just so happens that you are apparently the most basic and essential of them all. You're personally recession proof!

According to Jeff, this demand is in part due to the explosion of the volume of data which may have somewhat offset the recent downturn in embracing larger enterprise-wide IT architecture projects. Cost-cutting measures in IT are in full effect. Approaches for better utilizing data as information, which is at the core of every business, requires strong architecture around data movement, data quality, data synchronization, data management, and data re-use, are all going to remain high on the list. The need to fufill compliance mandates, get better visibility and control of data-centric architectures simply isn't going away because of what may be occuring on wall street.
Financial liquidity issues or not, we've got a job to do. Let's master our data-centric architectures and master our own destinies.
