It’s been great to have the opportunity to see and talk to so many certified and not-yet certified people here at OpenWorld. Many of the discussions that I've had with folks certified on older versions of Oracle Database have centered around the issue of upgrading to 10g or 11g. I therefore thought that it would be useful to talk about what we at Oracle call “bridge” exams.
Bridge Exams
All of you probably know that you can upgrade one version of your certification with a single exam. However, bridge exams are the exams that allow someone who is certified on an old version of the Oracle database to upgrade two versions by skipping or jumping one version. For example, you can jump from Oracle9i to Oracle Database 11g with a single upgrade exam. In fact this exam is available now, with a corresponding training course from Oracle University launching soon.
We have bridge upgrade exams for the following upgrade paths for OCP DBAs:
- Oracle7.3 or Oracle8 to Oracle9i (exam 1Z0-035)
- Oracle8i to Oracle Database 10g (exam 1Z0-045)
- Oracle9i to Oracle Database 11g (exam 1Z0-055)
You can find out more information here about all of our upgrade paths.
Safe travels home to everyone that attended OOW 2008 in San Francisco. I hope to see you again next year!
Thanks,

Paul Sorensen,
Director, Oracle Certification
