One Plus One = Zero (when it comes to multiple IDs)

Multiple Prometric IDs. What a pain.

Having exam records under two different Prometric IDs is one of the main causes you might not receive your Oracle certificate - even if you have completed all of the certification requirements.

First of all I should mention that you should always take all Oracle exams under one Prometric ID. This ID is your unique identifier within the Oracle certification program. If you create another ID by accident (or on purpose?) it will mess up your record, history and status in our certification database.

This is an issue at the root of many customer questions that we receive and it fortunately has a simple solution: merge your Prometric Testing IDs. Follow the steps below:

  • Go to Prometric's customer service form at http://tinyurl.com/5frnss
  • In the e-mail template, choose “Other” in the Subject line.
  • In the body of the e-mail message, type "Request: Merge Multiple Prometric IDs for Oracle Certification Customer" and include the following information:
    • full name
    • first Prometric ID
    • second Prometric ID
    • other Prometric IDs (all records will be merged under your original Prometric ID unless you specify otherwise.)
    • the nature of your problem (e.g. missing certificate, etc.)
    • complete mailing address
    • telephone number
    • email address

Follow this procedure and your merged records will be sent tour certification database, helping tkeep our records accurate and avoid delays in getting certified.

Thanks!

OBIEE Certification

The Oracle Certification team is considering the possibility of releasing an Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition (OBIEE) certification. In an effort to determine the demand for such a certification as well as which role we have created a survey for candidates to share their thoughts.

Please access the survey here. [UPDATE: survey closed as of 14 Nov 2008]

We appreciate your help on this!

Oracle Certification Testing at Oracle OpenWorld 2008

Oracle Certification is offering all production (non-beta) certification exams to registered conference attendees during the OpenWorld conference. We have eight sessions available - two per day, Monday Sep. 22 through Thu. Sep 25.

For more information on how to register, where to find the testing location, and what to bring, visit our Oracle OpenWorld 2008 Onsite Testing page.

Update from Oracle OpenWorld 2008

Ever year I marvel at the sheer number of people that attend Oracle OpenWorld and their level of enthusiasm for Oracle and its products (Oracle does put on a great show).

We have a great setup for certification – forty-six testing stations in our testing center. Our OCP lounge has twenty-two workstations, access to free Self Test Software practice exams, and plenty of snacks and beverages.

Additionally, we are doing something really fun this year. We are doing some on-camera interviews with folks regarding their careers and experience with Oracle certification. It's been very insightful already and we've only just started. After the conference we plan to post some of the highlights on our website and/or in this blog.

The highlight for me at OOW every year is talking to people and hearing their questions and comments. I always come away with new ideas and a greater appreciation for the hard work that people put into getting certified and building their careers.

We look forward to meeting you personally if you're here – please stop by and see us at Moscone South 250/252.

Bridge Exams

It’s been great to have the opportunity to see and talk to so many certified and not-yet certified people here at OpenWorld. Many of the discussions that I've had with folks certified on older versions of Oracle Database have centered around the issue of upgrading to 10g or 11g. I therefore thought that it would be useful to talk about what we at Oracle call “bridge” exams.

Bridge Exams

All of you probably know that you can upgrade one version of your certification with a single exam. However, bridge exams are the exams that allow someone who is certified on an old version of the Oracle database to upgrade two versions by skipping or jumping one version. For example, you can jump from Oracle9i to Oracle Database 11g with a single upgrade exam. In fact this exam is available now, with a corresponding training course from Oracle University launching soon.

We have bridge upgrade exams for the following upgrade paths for OCP DBAs:

  • Oracle7.3 or Oracle8 to Oracle9i (exam 1Z0-035)
  • Oracle8i to Oracle Database 10g (exam 1Z0-045)
  • Oracle9i to Oracle Database 11g (exam 1Z0-055)

You can find out more information here about all of our upgrade paths.

Safe travels home to everyone that attended OOW 2008 in San Francisco. I hope to see you again next year!

Thanks,

Paul Sorensen,

Director, Oracle Certification
