More on Defrag 2008

My previous post, written in haste early this morning under a serious caffeine deficiency, didn't quite do justice to William Duggan's presentation during Monday's keynote.  I'd like to rectify that situation...

Duggan asserted that the whole right brain/left brain thing is hooey, and that innovation is the product of intuition and analysis. He also observed that great artists -- and other innovators -- steal. The point isn't about intellectual thievery, but rather about building on the ideas of others, analyzing what has come before and recognizing new connections between previously unconnected ideas.

The other Monday session that really stood out for me was by Paul Pedrazzi of AppsLab. Paul made it clear that the accepted Web metrics -- page views, unique visits and such -- can't capture the real value of social networks and the social graph. Paul has posted his deck on Slideshare,  and it's very much worth viewing.

Defrag wraps  up this afternoon. More after I digest it all.
