Fellow blogger Laila Herr underscores the significance of collaboration in the PLM process. At Oracle Agile PLM, we have been focused on this aspect from the very beginning (no wonder that one of the pillars of our PLM solution is called "Product Collaboration"). The very popular Cimmetry viewer enables engineers to collaborate within the enterprise, as well as outside of it with suppliers and customers on product design models. At the upcoming Oracle Openworld, I'll be presenting with fellow product manager Shane Goodwin, and a long time Agile PLM customer, Quantum, on our features around securely collaborating with suppliers.
While it is desirable to closely tie suppliers into the product record, enabling them to collaborate on product designs, cost management and the change process, it is also essential to protect internal confidential information from suppliers, and various suppliers' Intellectual Property (IP) from each other.
The granular access privileges in Agile PLM can be configured to match users who are tied to a Supplier and then control object read privileges all the way down to the field level. The ability to change which suppliers get access to an object is also privilege controlled, giving administrators the ability to implement precise control on supplier access to your IP.
