Btrfs delivers features missing from Linux today, such as enhanced scalability and simplified management for large storage configurations, and flexible snapshotting and fast incremental backups of the data and metadata in the file system. Btrfs also maintains multiple copies of crucial file system structures.

This is big news for Linux because it will finally have the tools to overcome the biggest hurdle for enterprise adoption.

Unlike many other areas where Oracle has contributor to what others have started, btrfs has been initiated by Oracle and is something we're proud of as a contribution to the open source community.
