Oracle Database 11g with Windows 2008 Server

Windows 2008 Server has released RTM recently. Oracle fans will be
wondering can Oracle latest version of Database 11g run on Windows 2008 Server.

The answer
is YES,
Oracle Database 11g can install in Windows 2008 Server (Standard
Edition) without any error. I have tried the following.

- Opened the Enterprise Manager using IE in Windows 2008 to
unlock the account, SCOTT

- Open the downloaded Visual Studio Solution
sample,
DML Operations on DataSet Sample from
http://www.oracle.com/technology/sample_code/tech/windows/odpnet/odpbasic.html. Migrated the project to Visual Studio 2008 and run it.

Happy
playing

Jim B:

It runs on Win 2008 but is it supported/certified by Oracle to run on 2008.

Ming Man:

Yes, Oracle support Windows Server 2008 even in 10g R2

Jim B:

I must be missing something. In the link you provide I can indeed see Oracle 10.2.0.4 does run and is supported for the Windows 2008 platform. However, I don't anywhere that Windows 2008 supports Oracle version 11g.

I visited the following url

and called United States Support Sales (1.800.633.0738)

Oracle 11g is not certified by Oracle to run on Windows 2008 server.

Martin:

It runs... but not on IA64 version (it was not even released yet).
And neither does 10g. You get all kinds of really ugly java errors on Itanium. Even on x86 and x64 the initial release wouldn't install, Oracle had to release 10.2.0.4.0 standalone installer.

I guess it's much harder to fix than the famous java crashes on dual core Montecito CPU's, or Oracle does not care.

Even when IA64 does not sell as Intel and HP had hoped, it still kicks ass - especially when compared to SPARC.

Is there anyone crazy enough to run 11g DB on 32-bit Windows these days anyway?
